Mission Statement
As persons engaged in religious formation, we minister so that others may grow in Christian faith and experience a living and loving relationship with God. Our catechesis calls others to a lifestyle of the Good News and seeks to foster their maturing faith by explaining more fully the Gospel message and the common beliefs, which unite the Catholic Christian community.
Statement of Philosophy
Religious formation is a lifelong process of maturing in faith and an on-going growth in understanding and living out the beliefs and values of the Catholic religion. Because of their dignity and the respect due to all individuals, catechesis must adapt the teaching and learning process to the needs of the times and to the age levels of the people involved.
Objectives of Religious Formation
The Diocesan Office of Religious Formation works with parish programs to support the primary role of the parents in the religious formation of their children. These programs are planned according to the diocesan guidelines and the concerted pastoral activity of the Catholic Community. The objectives are in harmony with the National Catechetical Directory: Sharing the Light of Faith and the newly revised General Directory for Catechesis including the following:
1.to provide a systematic catechesis so that definite learning outcomes can be attained and learning gaps can be avoided.
2.to organize each year's program of instruction within a definite sequence so that the mysteries of faith will be gradually and progressively presented.
3.to assure that all the components of religious formation are included:
 | MESSAGE -- a gradual unfolding and growth in understanding scripture, liturgy, and doctrine. |
| COMMUNITY -- a sense of belonging where faith is shared, supported, and affirmed |
| SERVICE-- a witness to the faith through action on behalf of others. |
| WORSHIP -- a gathering for prayer and celebration of the sacraments. |
4.to recognize and develop the cognitive, affective, and behavioral elements of the learning process.
These objectives assist the learners to observe, explore, interpret and judge their experiences, clarify their values, ascribe Christian meaning to their lives, and act according to the norms of faith and love.
