St. Dominic altar servers,

youth choir, thanked

with bowling, pizza

Altar servers and members of the youth choir at St. Dominic Parish in Garden City were recently thanked for their service with a Knights of Columbus-sponsored bowling and pizza party at the Garden Bowl Bowling Alley.
Approximately 40 children and several adults -- including Father Wesley Schawe -- participated in the April 15 event. According to Mary Jo Sherrill, who’s husband, Don, is a member of the Knights, “We had drinks, pizza, chips, snacks and cookies.  Everyone had a great time.  The children really love Father Wesley.  When he arrived at the bowling alley most of the children stopped bowling and flocked to his side, giving him hugs and asking him to bowl with them.  Of course he was glad to have fun with them and took turns bowling with the groups.”
Don Sherrill offered the prayer before eating and told the children what an “important role they play in our church.”
“He told them how much they contribute by their gifts of time and talent,” Mary Jo said. “He said they make the Mass special for all of us through their service.  We are truly blessed as a parish to have such wonderful young people who not only give of themselves, but do their jobs with such joy and faith.”
Candy bags that included a prayer card and a “thank you” for their service were presented to the children as they left the party.
Bowling alley owners Steve and Laurie Whitehurst donated the entire Bowling alley for the party.  The Whitehurst’s said “they would love to see this become an annual event that keeps growing.”
