Pastoral Ministry Formation classes to

include a closer look at the ‘Hunger Games’

The Pastoral Ministry Formation program of the Diocese of Dodge City, in cooperation with the Diocese of Salina and through Newman University and Interactive Television, will begin its 2012, fall semester with, “Sacramental Theology,” presented by Salina priest, Father Frank Coady.
Also presented, beginning in October, is “The Hunger Games and the Good News”, presented by Father Robert Schremmer, Vicar General for the Diocese of Dodge City. The class will explore the themes that have resonated so deeply with Hunger Games readers by examining their similarity to the good news found in Jesus’ message about living in the ways of God’s Kingdom. As Shauna Niequist says “Hunger Games” presents a set of mirrors that we as Christians must confront, even though they come to us from the unlikeliest of places: a story we’ve all read “for fun.”
The class will be presented on Wednesdays from 6 – 9 p.m., Oct. 24, and Nov. 7, 14, and 28.

The cost to attend “The Hunger Games and the Good News” is: 1 hour course for credit -  $50; 1 hour course for personal enrichment - $25
Father Frank Coady, who will present “Sacramental Ministry,” serves in the Diocese of Salina as Director of Liturgy, Adult Education, Deacons; and Pastor of Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina.  Notions to be explored in this class include an understanding and appreciation of sacramentality, religious ritual and symbol.  These understandings will provide the basis for an in-depth reflection on the seven sacramental actions of the Church form both an historical and contemporary point of view. The class is presented Saturdays from 8:30 a.m.-Noon, Sept. 15, 22, 29, Oct. 13, 20, 27, and Nov. 3 and 10.
The cost for “Sacramental Theology” is: 3 hour course for credit - $150; 3 hour course for personal enrichment - $75.
The prices quoted do not include books
The Pastoral Ministry Formation program of the Diocese of Dodge City program has a three-fold focus: study theology; develop skills for ministry; and grow spiritually. It provides grounding in scripture and theology for the laity as they become increasingly responsible for the life and ministry of the Church. Pastoral Ministry Formation equips participants to fulfill the roles to which they are called by their baptism and for which their gifts and the needs of the times challenge them.
The classes are open to anyone for college credit or for personal enrichment.
The classes are presented at ITV sites throughout the diocese. Dodge City, Garden City, Great Bend, Liberal, Pratt, Ness City, Scott City, Sharon, Syracuse and Ulysses.
