Monthly Notes from Bishop Brungardt

April 2011 --- Vol. IX, No. 2
From Fr. Bob Schremmer, Vicar General & Moderator of Curia:

PREPARE-ENRICH TRAINING FOR MENTOR COUPLES

We had training for 15 couples and 2 pastoral ministers on Saturday, April 2nd.

This was the right number for the training.  Dr. Joyce Webb was our lead trainer, assisted by Rhonda Goodloe and Brooke Lopez from Catholic Social Service.

Evaluations were quite good.  There was one evaluation that was less positive.

We are looking forward to another training session in English and will be getting that date out sometime after Easter.  We know of 10 couples who were unable to participate in the April 2nd Training.

ROMAN MISSAL – THIRD EDITION – ENGLISH TRANSLATION:

We have arranged for a representative from F. C. Ziegler to be present sometime during our October Convocation (October 2 – 6, 2011), at the Spiritual Life Center, Wichita.

The representative will have actual copies of all the Missals (ritual and chapel sizes) from all the publishers.  You may peruse and then order your Missals to be delivered to your parish.

Some have mentioned a reluctance to order without having the opportunity to review actual publications.  It is hoped that this will address that desire.

You may want to visit http://www.zieglers.com/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=1163.

On the Chancellor page of our diocesan website (http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor) you will find three articles of interest:

-          Is this Baptism Valid? – includes a link to a resource that lists some churches without a valid baptism

A reminder to DREs and Catholic School principals that by May 3, 2011, I need you to submit your report form pertaining to the Safe Environment Religious Education lessons that are to be taught each year to our students.

A note was recently sent to pastors, DREs and principals who have adults working with children who are not fully compliant with our safe environment requirements.  Please see to it that all background check consent forms are signed and submitted by April 15, and see to it that all your adults who have been working with children still needing to attend a Protecting God’s Children’s awareness session do so by the end of April.

Vocation Views are weekly vocation thoughts for parish bulletins which are now available in the Bulletin Corner.

World Day of Prayer for Vocations is May 15 and is to be celebrated on Good Shepherd Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Easter. The theme, “Proposing Vocations in the Local Church, means having the courage, through an attentive and suitable concern for vocations, to point out this challenging way of following Christ which, because it is so rich in meaning, is capable of engaging the whole of one’s life.”  Read Pope Benedict XVI’s annual message on the World Day of Prayer for Vocations at: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/messages/vocations/documents/hf_ben-xvi_mes_20101115_xlviii-vocations_en.html

From Steven Polley, Director of Youth Ministry:

As we near the end of another catechetical year, I want to thank you for your ongoing support of each of the diocesan youth ministry events that take place throughout the year.  Your continued encouragement and support of the rallies, TEC and JOY help bring a newness of life and a deepening of faith to each of the young people who participate.

As we look to the summer, I invite you to encourage the middle school youth, grades 5 – 8 to participate in our summer camps to be held at Camp Lakeside.  Over the years, as young people have transitioned into high school youth ministry, we find that their roots to this lie in their experience of summer camp.
