From Fr. Bob Schremmer, Vicar General & Moderator of Curia:

As we prepare to implement the English translation of the
third Edition of the Roman Missal, please note the following:

►SINGING NEW ACCLAMATIONS MAY BEGIN SEPTEMBER 2011

At the June 2011 USCCB meeting, President Archbishop Dolan accepted the recommendation of the Committee on Divine Worship to adjust the manner of the implementation of the Roman Missal, Third Edition: "So, diocesan bishops may now permit the gradual introduction of new sung settings of the Gloria, the Holy and the Memorial Acclamations beginning in September."

In the Diocese of Dodge City, Bishop Brungardt grants permission to begin using new sung settings of the Gloria, the Holy and the Memorial Acclamations beginning in September.  Bishop reminds everyone, however, that it is not permissible to use the new wording of prayers or other parts of the Mass until November 27, 2011, the First Sunday of Advent.

CATECHIST FORMATION

Wednesday, September 7th, 6-9pm, ITV [English]

Saturday, September 10th, 9am -12noon, ITV [English]

Sunday, September 11th, 3-6pm, ITV [Spanish]

When something as central as the words at Mass change, it is important for us to prepare as well as we are able.  The changes in wording for the prayers at Mass give all of us a reason to think carefully about what we say when we pray the prayers at Mass.  This session continues what we began in our January Catechist Formation Sessions.  We will again consider the new texts to be used in Mass, so that you may prepare yourself, your children or others for the changes coming in Advent 2011.

During the September Catechist Formation session, we will also turn our hearts to Diocesan Priesthood and how "it takes a church to raise a priest."

MISSAL PRESENTATION AT OCTOBER PRIESTS’ CONVOCATION

Ken Canedo, a Portland, Oregon based liturgical composer, will present “Understanding and Implementing the Third Edition of the New Roman Missal – For Priests” on Monday of the Convocation.  This is workshop that Ken has presented to other presbyterates.  See http://www.gulfpinecatholic.com/?section=viewStory.cfm&ID=6903.

F. C. ZIEGLER WILL BE AT THE OCTOBER CONVOCATION...

...to take orders for the new Roman Missal.  They will have display copies of all the versions from all the publishers.  They said that they will match the discounted prices that have been offered on various flyers recently received in the mail.  Any Missals purchased will be delivered to the requested parish.  This is not an endorsement of Ziegler’s.

From Sr. Janice Grochowsky, CSJ, JCL, Chancellor:

Chancellor

The Chancellor page of the diocesan website http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor contains two items of importance:

1)  The Priest Compensation document that had been posted since April 2011 has been revised.  So, if you had previously printed a copy of this document, you may wish to make a copy of this up-to-date version.

2)  Bishop Brungardt approved a revision of the Standard Honorarium Rates (also known as “Help Out” rates) after consulting the Presbyteral Council.  These rates are effective 1 July 2011.  A reminder that IRS has increased the mileage reimbursement rate for the last six months of 2011(July 1 to December 31, 2011) to $.555 per mile.

Both of these documents can also be found in the Pastoral Handbook (upper left corner on the Chancellor page) under Clergy Information.

Safe Environment

At DRE Day June 1, two safe environment dvds created by the Diocese of St. Cloud, MN were previewed:  For Grades K-5 Strong Voices, Smart Choices: How to Honor Your Instinct to Stay Safe and for Grades 6 and up Personal Power: A Gut Check on Safety.  Use of these dvds is being offered as an option for the upcoming 2011-2012 year for providing safe environment training to students in our PSR programs, Catholic schools and youth groups.  The Safe Environment Religious Education Curriculum lessons will continue to be available for use as well.  Many of the parishes that were represented at DRE Day have pre-ordered a set of these dvds.  If there are pastors, DREs or youth ministers that believe they would like to order a set, contact me by email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by Wednesday, July 13 and I will send in a bulk order at a price of $60 per set; we, in turn, will bill the parish for the price of the dvd set.  At the present time only dioceses can order dvds at this discounted price.  After August 1, any parish or organization may order a dvd set on their own but the price will be $100 per set.

As the new school year gears up and new teachers, catechists, and other volunteers begin ministering with our children and youth, remember that all adults who have regular contact with children need to sign a background consent form and attend a Protecting God’s Children awareness training session.  Email alerts are sent to pastors, parish staff and others whenever PGC sessions get scheduled.  You may also check the Safe Environment page of the diocesan website http://www.dcdiocese.org/safe-environment for a list of scheduled sessions.  Background consent forms can also be printed from that page as well.

Tribunal

►This is to let you know the Review Court in Kansas City is implementing some changes in their review procedure that may prolong the time before an annulment case is completed.  Previously, if a petitioner had (for example) two formal cases in process, both formal cases were reviewed by the Kansas City Court at the same review session.   From now on, however, if a petitioner has more than one formal case in process, Kansas City will review the case of the earliest marriage at one review session and will hold the second formal case to be reviewed at the next scheduled review session.  Currently there are four review sessions scheduled each calendar year.  The two remaining scheduled review sessions in 2011 are August 29 and November 14.

Also, a reminder that when one of the parties has an annulment case being processed, wedding dates should not be finalized until two affirmative decisions have been rendered (an affirmative decision from the Dodge City Tribunal and an affirmative from the Review Court in Kansas City).  A party is not free to marry in the Catholic Church until two affirmative decisions have been rendered, and as noted above Kansas City reviews cases only four times a year.
