Dear Friends,

I have had the privilege of working with Father Bob Schremmer for the past several months as he has worked to prepare the Diocese of Dodge City for the Third Edition of the New Roman Missal. As part of that partnership, we would like to offer the parishes of Dodge City an opportunity to purchase the Revised Order of Mass with Supplemental Mass Settings for 50 cents a copy, plus shipping, for your parish. Should you wish to take advantage of this offer, will you please contact me directly at the telephone number or email address below?

F. C. ZIEGLER WILL BE IN THE DIOCESE SEPTEMBER 7 – 9.

Evan Smith of F. C. Ziegler will be at the Chancery Wednesday, September 7th, 2pm-4:30pm, with mock-ups of the “Missals” from the various publishers.  Originally the plan was for him to be at the Priests’ Convocation at the Spiritual Life Center, Wichita, October 3-6, with actual copies of the “Missal” for review and order.  But publication and delivery dates have been moved ahead to where there is a good chance that they will not be available at the first of October.  Evan will be visiting other parishes in the diocese.  As he shares those dates and places with us, we will share them with you.  Watch the Diocesan Home Page for info (www.dcdiocese.org).

Ziegler’s will still be present at the October Convocation.

CATECHIST FORMATION

Wednesday, September 7th, 6-9pm, ITV [English]
Saturday, September 10th, 9am -12noon, ITV [English]
Sunday, September 11th, 3-6pm, ITV [Spanish]

When something as central as the words at Mass change, it is important for us to prepare as well as we are able.  The changes in wording for the prayers at Mass give all of us a reason to think carefully about what we say when we pray the prayers at Mass.  This session continues what we began in our January Catechist Formation Sessions.  We will again consider the new texts to be used in Mass, so that you may prepare yourself, your children or others for the changes coming in Advent 2011.

During the September Catechist Formation session, we will also turn our hearts to Diocesan Priesthood and how "it takes a church to raise a priest."

MISSAL PRESENTATION AT OCTOBER PRIESTS’ CONVOCATION

Ken Canedo, a Portland, Oregon based liturgical composer, will present “Understanding and Implementing the Third Edition of the New Roman Missal – For Priests” on Monday of the Convocation.  This is workshop that Ken has presented to other presbyterates.  See http://www.gulfpinecatholic.com/?section=viewStory.cfm&ID=6903.

THE DIOCESAN LITURGY CONFERENCE – AUG 6 AND 7

Training for Children and Youth: In addition to the Safe Environment Religious Education Curriculum lessons that have been used the past few years, this year we are offering another option.  We are adopting the Safe Environment dvds that have been created by the Diocese of St. Cloud, Minnesota.  The dvd for Grades K-5 is entitled “Strong Voices, Smart Choices: How to Honor Your Instinct to Stay Safe,” and the dvd for Grades 6 and up is entitled “Personal Power: A Gut Check on Safety.”  A guide for discussion with the students accompanies each dvd.  Because only dioceses could order dvds prior to August 1, I placed an order on July 21 for DREs who informed me they wanted a set for their program.  Now that August 1 has passed, any individual may order a set of dvds on their own.  Here is the website: http://www.stclouddiocese.org/about/safe-environment/safetyvideos/. For those who choose to use these dvds for training of students, I will be creating some kind of report form and will have it available on the Safe Environment web page.

From Fr. Wesley Schawe, Director of the Office of Priestly Vocations

Vocations and Parish Weekend Substitution
Pastors and Sacramental Ministers: When the Church begins a new liturgical year on November 27th, I would also like to begin a time of visiting each parish to share a message of priestly vocations at weekend Masses and to meet some of the boys and single men that you think are solid, healthy members of your parish.

I could suggest a weekend to come visit your parish or parish cluster, but I would much rather arrange a weekend that also benefits you—freeing you up to visit family, to vacation, or to otherwise be away. So as you consider the coming liturgical year, if there is one weekend (two if your parish has two priests), that you would like this well-deserved break, please let me know. I will do my best to work around my other vocation activities to cover that weekend for you.

College Students
It can be easy to lose track of our youth when they head off to college and we only see them during holidays and maybe summers.

Do you know of any young men from your parish (or a previous parish) who are now practicing their Catholic faith joyfully in their college setting? I would like to know who they are, so that I can encourage them to listen to God’s particular call in their lives during their college years.

When thinking of names, keep in mind that some of our youth flourish in their faith only after arriving at college. Consider not only those who were alive when at your parish, but also those who have come alive later.

Please submit names of college-age men to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. as soon as you can. I will be making some college connections this Fall.
