►When does a priest need to request the faculty to Confirm? The information below can also be found on the Chancellor page of the Diocesan Website: http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor
A Priest DOES NOT need to be granted the faculty to Confirm…
- When a priest baptizes an adult according to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, he immediately confirms him or her. The priest does not need to request the faculty because the law provides the faculty.
[NOTE: The term “adult” for purposes of baptism “is to be applied to all those who, no longer infants, have attained the use of reason.” (c. 852, §2)]
- When a priest receives a baptized Christian into the Catholic Church according to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, after the Profession of Faith the priest confirms the new member. The priest does not need request the faculty because the law provides the faculty.
A Priest DOES NEED to be granted the faculty to Confirm…
- When a priest confirms a baptized Catholic, the priest must request and receive the faculty to Confirm from the Bishop.

►Annual Parish Reports were emailed to all pastors, administrators and parish life coordinators on January 25, and are due to be submitted to Sister Janice by February 29, 2012. It would do my heart good if everyone submitted them by the deadline!!!
►Annual Safe Environment Training of Students:
Principals and DREs – time is also running out to provide safe environment training to all students under your care. Go to the following page on the Safe Environment website http://www.dcdiocese.org/safe-environment/safe-environment-religious-education-curriculum to download and print safe environment lesson, the log sheets (to document when the safe environment lessons were taught or when the safety dvd was presented) and the DRE or Principal Report form. This year, because we will be audited, I am requesting both the log sheets and the Report form to be submitted to me. As soon as all the students in your PSR program or school have been trained, please turn in the log sheets and Report Form in to Sister Janice (
) or fax: 620-227-1545; or by mail: P.O. Box 137, Dodge City, KS 67801. The sooner you can submit these the better.
►Revision of the Safe Environment Lessons:
As you probably know, the Safe Environment Lessons we have been using originated in the Wichita Diocese. I have been contacted by the Director of the Office of Faith Formation in the Diocese of Wichita, and they are in the process of revising the Safe Environment Lessons. I have been asked to elicit feedback that we can share with them as they prepare this revision.
The proposed revisions include creating just ONE lesson per grade. Secondly, we are seeking input from you for possible topics to include in the Lessons that are currently not been addressed (such as technology issues like cyber bullying, the dangers of social media, etc.). Reducing the number of lessons from three or four to one should address many of the obstacles of using the lessons. Please provide your feedback about possible topics by February 17, 2012.

►Dinners with Bishop John
The Office for Priestly Vocations is sponsoring four “Dinners with Bishop John” for boys and single men and their pastors in the Spring semester of 2012. What a great opportunity for those young men who love the Catholic Faith and may have a vocation to the priesthood (whether they know it or not)…

Sunday, March 4th, 6-8 pm Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe (high school students in the DC deanery)
Sunday, April 15th, 6-8 pm Sacred Heart, Pratt (high school students in the GB deanery)
Friday, April 20th, 6-8 pm Bishop John’s residence, Dodge City (single men out of high school residing in the Diocese)
Pastors: Please put these dates on your calendar! Your help will be extremely important for this event. Your invitation will be the primary encouragement for their attendance. If a high school boy or single man is interested in attending, he should let his pastor know. Bishop John and I will join your deanery gathering in advance of the dinner to visit with you about the event.

►Justice for Immigrants ~ A group in the Dodge City area has shown interest in forming a coalition to work for justice for immigrants. This group is not sponsored by any particular church or community. 38 people expressed interest in attending the first meeting, held on November 17, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City. An invitation is extended to others who are interested in hearing about this emerging coalition. I would like to send you a report of the meeting and a sign-in sheet on which participants made choices about what aspects of the issue they were interested in pursuing.
Some choices listed were: Learn About the Issue of Justice For Immigrants; Pray for Justice for Immigrants; Write to Officials in Washington, DC; Lead Meetings; Serve on a Speakers Bureau; Serve on a Leadership Team. If you are interested, please contact Maria Musick at 620-227-3592.
►Now through March 19th the National Catholic Youth Choir (NCYC) is accepting applications from high school youth for the June 12-27, 2012, choral camp and concert tour. Applications are available on their website at www.CatholicYouthChoir.org. Fr. Anthony Ruff, OSB, is the founding director and chaplain, the choir is conducted by Axel Theimer. ►The Catholic Social Service Charity Wine Tasting Event is scheduled for Friday, April 27, 2012 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Club at Stone Ridge in Great Bend KS. Come sample wines from all over the world while enjoying hors d-oeuvres, the live entertainment of Classical Guitarist, Richard J Falcon Jr, an enticing array of live and silent auction items, and other fun activities.
