Chancellor

When does a priest need to request the faculty to Confirm?  The information below can also be found on the Chancellor page of the Diocesan Website: http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor.

A Priest DOES NOT need to be granted the faculty to Confirm…
-    When a priest baptizes an adult according to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, he immediately confirms him or her.  The priest does not need to request the faculty because the law provides the faculty.
[NOTE: The term “adult” for purposes of baptism “is to be applied to all those who, no longer infants, have attained the use of reason.” (c. 852, §2)]
-    When a priest receives a baptized Christian into the Catholic Church according to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, after the Profession of Faith the priest confirms the new member.  The priest does not need request the faculty because the law provides the faculty.

A Priest DOES NEED to be granted the faculty to Confirm…
-    When a priest confirms a baptized Catholic, whether at the Easter Vigil or at some other time, the priest must request and receive the faculty to Confirm from the Bishop.
-    When the faculty is needed, email Georgina Paz, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or write a letter to Bishop Brungardt requesting the faculty to confirm, stating the date of confirmation and the names of the candidates to be confirmed.

Churches without valid baptism:  Go to the Chancellor page to view a list of churches whose baptism is not considered valid: http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor

Testimonial Process:
As noted in the Presbyteral Council Notes, beginning 1 May 2012, any priest or deacon who comes into the Diocese of Dodge City for a ministerial purpose (including but not limited to celebrating a funeral, baptism, quinceañera, wedding, parish mission, parish retreat, etc.) will need to provide a testimonial document signed by his bishop (or superior in the case of a religious priest) or delegate.  Testimonial forms and the process are found on the Chancellor page of the Diocesan website (http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor/4075).

Also, any priest who may be traveling in the coming months to another diocese, you may be required to provide a similar testimonial form to the diocese where you are going.  Contact Sister Janice if you need us to provide that testimonial for you.  On a similar note, if you wish to have a current celebret to carry with you, please contact Sister Janice several weeks before you leave.

From Steven Polley, Office of Youth Ministry and Religious Formation

I would like to once again thank you for the ongoing support you give to the youth ministry efforts in the diocese.  A very good example of this would be the number of young people we have signed up for the upcoming TEC weekend in Garden City.  The support you give to this movement is truly appreciated.

And yet as I look forward to a TEC weekend that promises to be very powerful I continue to have concerns about youth ministry as a whole in the diocese.  In on going conversations with Bishop Brungardt and Father Schremmer, I have mentioned that I see youth ministry struggling in the diocese.  Now it is nothing that cannot be changed, but I feel that we may be looking at a new vision and possibly some changes as to how we approach our ministry to our young people.  And so, I would welcome an opportunity to sit down with you at your convenience, possibly over lunch and talk about this.  In so doing I would like to begin by addressing one question, “What are we not doing, that you want us to do?”  Please do not hesitate to contact me to set up a time for this conversation, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Finally, Bishop Brungardt has entered into a conversation with the Director of Totus Tuus in the Wichita Diocese.  The Diocese of Wichita has one or two teams that can be available to serve parishes in our diocese for two or three weeks.  These weeks are June 9 – 16, June 16 – 23 and July 14 – 21.  This is simply meant to be a notice to see if there is enough interest in two or three parishes or clusters to pursue having a team come to the diocese for two or possibly all three weeks.

Thank you for you continued prayers and support.
