July 2012 Monthly Notes

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DODGE CITY

Monthly Notes from Bishop Brungardt
and the Diocesan Staff
July 2012 --- Vol. X, No. 7

From Sr. Janice Grochowsky, CSJ, JCL, Chancellor:

Chancellor

►  When sending a recent copy (dated within the past six months) of a baptism certificate with a prenuptial file or an annulment petition, please also send the side that contains notations of other sacraments received.  This is additional information that I want to see—and sometimes need to see—even if there are “no notations”.

►  A reminder to priests to contact Alba in the Bishop’s Office ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 620-227-1525) when you are going to be away from the parish over a weekend or longer.  Please include the dates you will be away, the name of the priest who will be substituting your weekend Masses and/or providing coverage in case of a funeral, and names and/or phone numbers where you can be reached in case of an emergency.

Safe Environment

►  Bishop Brungardt has made the decision that beginning 1 July 2012 all adult volunteers with regular contact with minors must be compliant PRIOR to beginning any volunteer ministry.  Compliance means an adult must already have attended a Protecting God’s Children awareness session and they already must have a completed background check.  This means if the day comes to begin some volunteer activity that involves regular contact with minors, and the adult has not yet attended a PGC awareness session and does not have a completed background check, then this adult may not take part in the volunteer activity until he/she becomes compliant.

►  Another change is being made regarding children/youth safe environment training:  beginning August 2012 two safe environment lessons will be required to be presented to children/youth in grades three thru twelve.  One lesson will be presented in the fall and one lesson presented early in the new year prior to March 1.  (Students in Kindergarten, grades one and two are provided only one session).  The “lesson” may consist of either using the dvd approved for use in 2011 with discussion or one of the printed lessons we have been using for a couple of years.

Seminarian Send-off

All are invited to join Bishop John, Fr. Wesley, and all the Dodge City seminarians for a Holy Hour from 9:00-10:00 am on Saturday, August 4th at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City. Marking the feast of St. John Vianney, the patron of parish priests, it will be an opportunity to pray in front of our Eucharistic Lord both with and for the seminarians of our Diocese.

Later that day…the 5:00 pm (English) and 7:00 pm (Spanish) weekend Masses will both be celebrated by Bishop John, blessing our young men as they begin their new academic year. Each Mass will be followed by a reception to meet and greet the seminarians in the gathering space. All are welcome.

Stewardship

The 2012 Stewardship Conference is August 25th at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Information is now available on the Stewardship webpage. Register and tell your friends.

► Exciting News! If your parish is interested in sending a representative to the 2002 ICSC International Stewardship Conference in Chicago, Illinois September 16-19, your representative can receive a free registration. That would leave your parish to cover the flight and motel. Contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 620-227-1537

If you believe in the need to not only encourage men to say yes to the priesthood but to support them when they do, make a gift to this challenge grant. Then, tell five friends they should make a gift too. We have received gifts of stock, gifts of cash in checks and Paypal. www.dcdiocese.org/development

A few quick guidelines if you do not want to stop at the webpage:

    • Grant rules allow for 1,000 dollar minimum gifts.
