August 2016 Notes

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF DODGE CITY

Monthly Notes from Bishop Brungardt

and the Diocesan Staff

August 2016 --- Vol. XIV, No.  VIII

From Most Rev. John B. Brungardt, Bishop of Dodge City

FORMATION FOR LITURGICAL MINISTRY…is a collaborative effort of the Salina and Dodge City Dioceses to support and encourage liturgical life in our parishes. Bishop Weisenburger and I encourage every parish in our dioceses to have one or more parishioners prepared with the certificate available through participation in this offering of our Pastoral Ministry Formation Program so they can serve the parish as a resource for the source and summit of the life or our Church. In Dodge City, this opportunity is available both in English and Spanish. Information has been mailed to parishes.  You may also visit the Pastoral Ministry Formation Page.
The second edition of "The Order of Celebrating Matrimony" is available for pre-order through Liturgical Press. They will be publishing an English Ritual Edition and a Bilingual Edition as well as liturgical participation aids.  The Parish will receive a 35% discount if ordered through the Chancery. Click here for a flyer To order contact Gayla Kirmer at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .  Please include the product order number, complete description and the number needed. The books will be available for distribution at the Priest Convocation in October when Fr. Paul Turner, a priest of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph and well-known speaker and writer on liturgical/sacramental topics, will present a workshop on the Revised Rite of Marriage.

Political Activity vis-à-vis 501(c)(3) Organizations – With the political season in full swing, I take this opportunity to remind parish leaders of the prohibition of allowing political candidates or political organizations to use parish facilities or grounds to distribute information that promotes or discourages voting for particular individuals.  For a fuller explanation, go to the Chancellor page on the diocesan website http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor).  If questions arise, feel free to contact Sister Janice   This email address is being protected from spambots. August 15 – Because the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary falls on a Monday, it  is not a holy day of obligation this year in the United States.
The Priest Compensation document, revised annually in July to reflect changes in various aspects of compensation to priests, is now available on the Chancellor page: http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor.

From Mark Roth, Director of Development

I would like to extend my sincere "thanks" to everyone that helped with the Dechant Foundation Golf Tournament, you made the Second Annual Dechant Foundation Golf Tournament a huge success. Over $24,000 was raised to benefit the Priest Retirement Fund at the Diocese. Plans are already underway for the 2017 tourney, so be thinking of ways you can show your support to the past and future retired priests that have served the Diocese of Dodge City. From Fr. Ted Skalsky & Deanna Johnston, Marriage Family Life & NFP Team
We have updated the Diocesan NFP page of the Marriage and Family Life section of the website. Visit www.dcdiocese.org/nfp to see an updated listing of teachers, classes that are happening in the diocese, and online classes that are available.  There is also an excellent video from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee posted that is a wonderful introduction to what NFP is and why couples should consider using it in their marriage.  It is a great resource to share with engaged and married couples in your parish.
