The Official Catholic Directory is in the process of streamlining their data collection for the annual publication to an online system.

I received the following information from OCD on November 20, 2017:  “On or about December 1, letters with simple and easy to follow instructions for using the OCD Online Update System will be sent to each organization listed within the Diocese of Dodge City.  The letter and the online update system will include an OCD support phone number and email address where system users can have issues/questions addressed.  The DEADLINE for organizations to update their listing information online is DECEMBER 31, 2017.”

Although this will be coming in the very busy month of December, I urge all parishes and organizations who receive the update information to make it a priority to submit their changes to the OCD as soon as possible.

From Fr. Peter Tran, JCL, Chair Presbyteral Council

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23 at 11am.

From Mark Roth, Director of Development

VMA Update: Reminder to the priests: please announce at least monthly the continued support of the appeal. Refer to the Bulletin Corner for your parishes updated gift participation.

CATHOLIC PLANNED GIVING AND ESTATE PLANNING SEMINAR

The Catholic Diocese of Dodge City is pleased to sponsor: “Catholic Planned Giving and Estate Planning”. These seminars are part of the Department of Development’s stewardship education program and concentrate on the Christian steward’s right to plan for the prayerful and orderly distribution of one’s estate.

The purpose of these seminars is to inform Catholics within the diocese of their rights to ensure that their wishes and the needs of their family are carried out as intended. At the same time, we will illustrate some gift planning techniques people may use in coordination with their estate plan and to give back to God some of the material blessings He has bestowed on all of us.  People generally recognize the importance of giving to their parish and diocesan ministries during their lifetime; not too many consider similar gifts in their estate plans and wills. Our vision is to show you the opportunities!

Please join us at one of the Seminars listed:

January 10, 2018, 7:00pm Cathedral of our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City

January 15, 2018, 7:00pm St. Anthony Parish Center, Liberal

January 25, 2018 7:00pm Prince of Peace Parish Center, Great Bend

February 2018-Sacred Heart Pratt (TBD)

We have updated the Diocesan NFP page of the Marriage and Family Life section of the website. Visit www.dcdiocese.org/nfp to see an updated listing of teachers, classes that are happening in the diocese, and online classes that are available.  There is also an excellent video from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee posted that is a wonderful introduction to what NFP is and why couples should consider using it in their marriage.  It is a great resource to share with engaged and married couples in your parish.

THEO 1003 Introduction to Old Testament

Instructor:  Sr. Joan Wolf

This course is designed to bring the Old Testament to life and to thrill its readers with the story of one people’s journey into faith. These ancient people’s experiences may reveal the truth of our own journeys in that we can see ourselves in their life experiences, in their growth as well as in their backsliding, in their discoveries of the nature of God and in their misreading what was the will of God, in their frustration when life’s troubles were overwhelming and when they had to trust God when important questions remained unanswered. It is a story which covers 2,000 years, a story of real flesh and blood people searching for God and of God’s loving self-revelation over the centuries.
