►  Spanish Liturgical Texts -- The latest edition of the Committee on Divine Worship Newsletter (January, 2014), makes the following points about Spanish liturgical texts:

1.       The new four volume Leccionario de la Misa may be used as of Ash Wednesday next year (February 18, 2015); it is required to be used as of Pentecost next year (May 24, 2015). USCCB Communications will be the sole publisher.

2.       A U.S. edition of the Evangelario will be published shortly after the Leccionario.

3.       In conjunction with the publication of the Misal Romano (which is awaiting recognitio in Rome) USCCB Communications is planning to release a set of three videos in Spanish on the Mass and the Misal.

4.       Interestingly, USCCB is acquiring a copyright license from the Spanish episcopal conference for its translation of the Roman Martyrology, second edition.

From Sr. Janice Grochowsky, CSJ, JCL, Chancellor:

CHANCELLOR

Upcoming Changes in the Pastoral Handbook

Mass Stipend: At their January meeting, the Kansas Bishops made a decision to raise the standard amount for a Mass stipend from $5 to $10 effective May 1, 2014.

Priest Health Insurance Premium: Bishop Brungardt approved the recommendation of the Presbyteral Council at its 3/18/14 meeting to increase the amount of health insurance premium by $25: from $650 per priest per month to $675 per priest per month beginning May 1, 2014.

Priest Salary:  Bishop Brungardt approved the recommendation of the Presbyteral Council at its 11/19/13 meeting to increase the priest salary by $50: from $2,475 per month to $2,525 per
month effective July 1, 2014.

Sabbatical Leave Policy has revised wording
Priest Retirement has revised wording.

I will wait until July 1, 2014 to add these changes to the Pastoral Handbook on the Diocesan website, but will post them on the Chancellor homepage (http://www.dcdiocese.org/chancellor).

Priest celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation - Below is a reminder about when a priest does not or does need to request the faculty to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation:

No Faculty is needed: If the priest baptizes an adult (that is, all those who, no longer infants, have attained the use of reason—c. 852, §2) or receives a baptized Christian into the Catholic Church, the law provides the priest with the faculty to immediately confirm the new member.

Faculty is needed: If the adult was baptized in the Catholic Church, and now some years later is seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation, then the priest needs to request from Bishop Brungardt the faculty to confirm.  To request the faculty to celebrate Confirmation, email Alba Ortiz at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or write a letter to Bishop Brungardt requesting the faculty to confirm, stating the date of the confirmation and the names of the candidates to be confirmed.

The document Preparation for Marriage: Guidelines for the Couple has been added to the Documents box on the Engaged Encounter page of the diocesan website (http://www.dcdiocese.org/engaged-encounter).

From John Ackerman, Director of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith:

Effective May 1, 2014, Mass Stipends will increase from $5 per Mass to $10 per Mass. For past Mass Stipends, sent to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, you have all been very faithful in letting me know the name(s) for the Mass Intention(s) as well as the number of Masses that are to be offered. During this transition period, I would continue to ask for your diligence in providing as much information as possible. I would foresee that after May 1, 2014, there may be a period of time that Mass Intentions submitted to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith would have been accumulated at the $5 per Mass basis as well as the new $10 per Mass basis. Your providing as much information as possible will be of great assistance in helping me to make sure that Mass Intentions are accumulated and distributed at the correct amount. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or (620) 227-1534. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

From Steven Polley, Office of Youth Ministry and Religious Formation:

Thank you for the support of both the middle school and high school youth over the past three months -- encouraging them to participate in two TEC weekends, the JOY retreat, and most recently the Junior High Youth Rally.  Your encouragement to these young men and women is greatly appreciated!

► I invite you to continue supporting the middle school youth by encouraging them to attend the summer camp for their age group.  The theme for the camps is “G-Force” with the four days of camp focusing on, God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit and Go Proclaim.  More information regarding camps can be found on the youth page of the web-site.

► There are two TEC weekends scheduled, June 28 – 30 at St. Dominic’s in Garden City and July 19 – 21 at Sacred Heart Parish in Pratt, for this year’s sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

► Finally, I ask that you speak to your DRE, youth ministers, catechists, RCIA team members and if you have a school your principal and teachers, regarding the Catechizing Kansas Conference, “Teaching God’s Gift Of Forgiveness”, July 25 – 26 in Wichita.

Bishop Brungardt will be one of the keynote speakers, along with other national speakers. What an opportunity for our diocese, to join with the other three dioceses of Kansas!  Gather and enter into conversations that lead to new insight and energize you  in your formation as a catechist!

Click here for the flyer. For additional information on how to register, click here.

► Again, my sincere appreciation for you continued support of the Youth and Religious Formation Office.

From Fr. Wesley Schawe, Director of the Office of Priestly Vocations:

VOCATIONS

► College Connection 2014

The Vocations Office wants to help high school seniors and transfer students from the Diocese of Dodge City get connected with their new college home this Fall! No matter where they’re going (community college, Catholic college, state university), we want to give their new parish or Catholic Center a “heads up” so they can be invited to continue and enrich their Catholic life. Some of the greatest activity in the Catholic Church today is centered on college campuses!

But we can’t do it without help! We need to know where your graduating high school seniors (plus transfer students and community college graduates) plan to be next year.
How can you gather that information? Some suggestions:

•    From a Senior PSR class.
•    If you have a “graduation Mass” in May, have each graduate fill out the simple information as they gather for Mass.
•    If one senior knows the class well, get the info. from him/her.

For a printable card to use at your senior PSR class or “graduation Mass” click here.  Send completed cards to Vocations Office, PO Box 137, Dodge City, KS 67801

Electronic sign up is available at www.dcdiocese.org/vocations
