Joel McClure was placed on leave from formation as a seminarian of the Diocese of Dodge City, effective August 24, 2015. Upon consultation with the Diocesan Review Board, Bishop Brungardt discontinued McClure as a seminarian, as of August 26th. McClure has been a seminarian for the past two years. This decision follows the receipt of credible allegations from law enforcement who are investigating McClure’s possible viewing, possessing and sharing images of child pornography on the internet. The Diocese of Dodge City has cooperated and will continue to cooperate with law enforcement’s investigation.
Bishop Brungardt instructed McClure and seminary officials to cooperate with the investigation as well. He has also instructed McClure to refrain from contact with minors during the investigation.
Bishop Brungardt stresses that the protection and safety of children is a prime responsibility of the Church.
Bishop asks prayer for healing in the Lord for all victims of abuse and prayer for a change of heart of those caught up in the exploitation of children.
