Revisions effective January 2018 have been made to our Policy for the Protection of Children and Young People and Code of Pastoral Conduct.
Everyone who has attended a Protecting God's Children awareness session received the Policy and Code that was current at that time. In addition, each person signed a receipt that stated, "I understand that I am personally responsible for reading and abiding by these policies and the standards of behavior contained therein, including any revisions posted on the diocesan website." Therefore, everyone who has been trained should download and print this revised Policy and Code so that you are aware of the current norms. A link to the revised document and a link to specific sections of the document are provided below.

All of our Background Consent forms were revised July 2012.
Please discard any previous forms and use only the current form.
Beginning 1 July 2012 all adults who have regular contact with minors must be compliant PRIOR to beginning the volunteer ministry or activity. Compliance means an adult must already have attended a Protecting God's Children awareness session and they already must have a completed background check.
This means if the day comes to begin some volunteer activity that involves regular contact with minors, and the adult has not yet attended a PGC awareness session and/or does not have a completed background check, then this adult many not take part in the volunteer activity until he/she becomes compliant.
What would we do without the Internet!? This technology provides marvelous opportunities for worldwide instantaneous communication, countless resources for researchers and students, and the ability to connect with others near and far. The progress that society, business and commerce have experienced in recent years, I am sure, can be linked to the ever-increasing capabilities of the Internet. In many ways, these are the "best of times" in terms of Internet-possibility.
There is a dark side to the Internet, however. Among other industries, pornography--its production and dissemination--can thank the Internet for its huge success. There are 4.2 million pornographic websites and in 2006 the total porn industry revenue was $13.3 billion in the United States and $97 billion worldwide.
The former Kansas Department of the Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) is now the Department for Children and Families (DCF).
If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, call the Kansas Protection Report Center at 1-800-922-5330. Telephone lines are staffed 24 hours a day. In the event of an emergency, contact your local law enforcement or call 911. For more information go to Child Protective Services.
Reporting child or adult abuse or neglect can also be done electronically by using the new Kansas Intake/Investigation Protection System.
Hotline numbers for alcohol and drug abuse, problem gambling, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the National Human Trafficking Resource Center may be found on the DCF website here: http://www.dcf.ks.gov/Pages/HotlineNumbers.aspx
A note regarding the resources above: A debt of gratitude is owed to the Archdiocese of Omaha for the work of their Anti-Pornography Task force and the resources they have provided to create an awareness of the problem and suggestions to assist parents and families in preventing pornography from becoming a problem. We are equally grateful to the Diocese of Fresno for the Spanish translations of the Anti-Pornography resources.
