Brad Farmer and Gene Monterastelli (tallest pictured, LtoR), members of the inspirational comedy/juggling duo, APeX, help youth attending the High School Youth Rally in Dodge City learn a lesson about faith.

More than 60 youth gathered at Dodge City Middle School April 2 not just to be lectured to, not only to pray together, and not for the sole purpose of seeing their friends and having a few laughs. They came to put their faith into action. A significant part of the April 2-3 youth rally saw the high school youth going out into the community. Some helped at the Salvation Army, while others repaired homes. Several of the youth visited the elderly at an assisted living center, and many labored to beautify a park. But before they headed out into the community to work, there was prayer, there was time for reflection, and there was APeX. From the stage of the auditorium at Dodge City Middle School, APeX, an inspirational juggling/comedy duo made up of Gene Monterastelli and Brad Farmer, brought lessons of faith. Flinging juggling pins across the stage to each other, the friends since childhood -- both in their 20s -- brought laughter from the crowd as they bantered back and forth. The two then brought several youth on stage where they mimed a hilarious play, which the youth would later learn was highly symbolic. Perhaps the most poignant moment came when Farmer, alone on stage, told of his little sister who suffered from cerebral palsy. Though unable to speak or walk well, she charmed everyone who came into contact with her, he said. Often hospitalized, Farmer said he was not overly concerned when, one day, she was again taken to the hospital. But this time, he said, something compelled him to enter into prayer. Deep in prayer, he said he suddenly saw his little sister happily running across the room as she never could in reality. The image he said, was as real as the people in the audience. He would later learn that the moment he saw her was the moment she had died. Attention 5th-8th graders: Please check out the youth page at www.dcdiocese.org for information about the upcoming summer camp.
