An estimated 700 people filled the streets of Dodge City March 21 as local Catholics led a living Stations of the Cross processional from the old Our Lady of Guadalupe Church to Sacred Heart Church, seven blocks away.

Starting with Jesus’s trial, held on the steps of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, the group made its way through the streets, several homes having prepared for particular stations.

Organizer Sister Maria Rea explained that different faith groups, such as Arco Iris, Cursillo, and the parish choir prepared and participated in the different stations.

For the fourth station, "Jesus meets his sorrowful mother," women who had lost sons to war or violence were invited to carry the cross.

For the sixth station, "Veronica wipes the face of Jesus," children were invited to carry the cross.

With actors dressed in detailed costume, and with Catholics and non-Catholics alike sitting on their front porches watching the events, groups presented both literal and symbolic interpretations of the Stations.

Local police shut down the streets to traffic as the crowd, gaining in numbers as it went, made its way eventually to Sacred Heart Church where the group held a celebration of the Passion with Father Ted Skalsky.

Un grupo de aproximadamente 700 personas llenaron las calles de Dodge City el 21 de Marzo mientras los grupos Católicos participaron en una Vía Crucis viviente que procesó desde la vieja Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe , a la Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón con una distancia de siete bloques.

La Vía Crucis comenzó en los escalones de la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe donde se represento el juicio de Jesús. Después, el grupo fue por las calles, y a algunas casas que habían preparado para estaciones particulares.

La organizadora, Hna. Mari Rea, explico que diferentes grupos de fe, como el Arco Iris, Cursillo, y el coro de la parroquia, prepararon y participaron en las diferentes estaciones.

Las mujeres con hijos perdidos por la violencia o en la guerra, fueron invitadas a llevar la cruz en la cuarta estación cuando, "Jesús se encuentra con su Madre, la Virgen María."

En la sexta estación, "Verónica limpia la cara de Jesús", los niños fueron invitados a llevar la cruz.

Los "actores" estaban vestidos con trajes detallados. Mucha gente católica y también los de otras fes disfrutaron desde sus balcones el evento que presentó interpretaciones literales y simbólicas de la Vía Crucis.

La policía local cerró las calles al tráfico mientras que la multitud aumentaba hasta su llegada a la Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón, donde el grupo celebró la Pasión de Cristo con el Padre Ted Skalsky.
