"We Made It" is the inscription on the t-shirts of 27 high school students from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Dodge City who participated in a week-long mission to Benton Harbor, Michigan the last week of June. The students, along with five chaperones, painted homes for the elderly, worked at a senior center, and taught bible lessons to neighborhood kids. The group shared the week with four other churches — from Iowa, Indiana, and Michigan. In addition to the work projects, the group also spent three nights on the beaches of Lake Michigan, swimming and barbecuing. They also participated in a Pentecostal Church service. This is the third year the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe has conducted a summer mission trip for the high school. "Getting the students out of their comfort zone where they have to depend on others and even God can be a life changing experience for them," said Dave Geist, the group’s adult leader. Other adults who participated in the trip included Brenda Jensen, Sue Gier, Lois Hubbell, and Father Ted Skalsky.
