Guest speakers to address, ‘What is chastity?’
The Diocese of Dodge City will present "What is Chastity?" Jan. 4 and 7 at Interactive Television sites throughout the diocese.
The three-hour event is part of the Catechist Formation Program, and is open to anyone involved with religious education, sacramental preparation and Generations of Faith.
The program will be presented twice: Jan. 4 is a Wednesday evening session and will begin at 6 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. Supper will be provided; Jan. 7 is a Saturday morning session and will begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon. Brunch will be provided.
Guest speakers include Father Jarrod Lies and Maury A. Elizabeth Redman.
Father Jarrod Lies is a priest of the Diocese of Wichita and was ordained May 26, 2001. He holds undergraduate degrees in Philosophy and Theology from Conception Seminary College and a masters degree in Scriptural Theology from the Pontifical College Josephinum. Father Lies spent the first two years of his priesthood at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Pittsburg, Kans. Today he is the chaplain for Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Wichita. Father Lies’s current ministry focuses on youth ministry, adult education, and retreat work.
Redman was born in Kingman, Kans. and moved to Seattle at the age of eight. After her graduation from Kansas State University in December 2002 with a degree in Political Science and Public Relations, she moved to St. Louis. While in St. Louis, she was trained in the dynamics of retreat ministry with the REAP Team. After a short time, she moved to Wichita to accept the position as Director of Student Activities at St. Paul’s Newman Center on the Wichita State University campus in Sept. 2003. In April 2004, she attended St. Paul’s Institute for Catholic Evangelization in Madison, Wisc. She has given many talks on "Chastity and Catholic Courtship" to middle school and high school youth, college students and young adults; and she currently serves on both the Catholic Diocese of Wichita Young Adult Ministry Board and Diocesan Chastity Task Force.
The Catechist Formation Program is presented over Interactive Television to eight different sites in the diocese: Dodge City, Garden City, Great Bend, Liberal, Marienthal, Pratt, Sharon, and Ulysses. The Interactive Television mode of broadcast allows the diocese to present the material to all simultaneously without requiring anyone to travel very far.
Those who participate in three Catechist Formation sessions receive a diocesan certification.
Catechist Formation Program is an educational tool designed to help all those in the Dodge City Diocese who have been called to share the faith.
