Lighting the Advent wreath

Students in Megan Peintner’s second grade class at Sacred Heart Cathedral School in Dodge City lit their Advent wreath Nov. 30. The Advent wreath originated in Europe and symbolizes the coming of the Light of Christ to the world. The evergreen wreath that surrounds the candles represents everlasting life. Sometimes pinecones are used as symbols of the resurrection, while fruits may represent the "nourishing fruitfulness of the Christian life."  -- Photo by David Myers
