Deacon Lampe honored for helping CCHD cyclers

Debbie Snapp of Catholic Social Service presents Deacon Dwaine Lampe an award for aiding several cyclers who were riding across the United States to raise awareness about poverty. At Deacon Lampe’s left is his wife, Louise, and Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore.

Deacon Dwaine Lampe of Spearville was honored recently with an award in recognition of the assistance he provided to cross country cyclers trying to raise awareness of poverty in the United States.

In a letter from the Campaign for Human Developement, representatives wrote, "During the two months of cycling, we went through 12 states and 32 dioceses... . We could not have successfully completed our mission without the support and outpouring of generosity on the part of people like you."

Deacon Lampe was instrumental in finding lodging for the cyclers in Tribune, Dighton and LaCrosse. He also cooked a roast pork for one of several gatherings the cyclers hosted, during which they spoke about helping the poor. Parish volunteers also provided meals for the cyclers.
