DODGE CITY -- The Most Rev. William J. Dendinger, bishop of the Diocese of Grand Island, Neb., was the main speaker at the annual Day of Recollection for Priests, Feb. 28 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The day-long event included three sessions presented by Bishop Dendinger, a Holy Hour in which the bishop heard confessions, Mass celebrated by Father Robert Schremmer, and a dinner and reception at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Bishop Dendinger was ordained bishop of the Grand Island diocese on Dec. 13, 2004. For more than 30 years, he served as a military chaplain, including at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, where he retired in 2001 as a two-star general. He had visited Dodge City only one time before, when he drove through as a college student. He said he still enjoys getting back to Colorado where he is an avid skier.
