LaCrosse Grand Knight Darren Viegra recently presented a check for $590.75 to Monsignor Brian Moore to be used for the Dodge City Diocesan REACH Program.

The money is half of what the La Crosse Knights of Columbus Council #2970 received as donations from their "Commitment To Humanity Fund Drive." These donations came from the LaCrosse and Rush Center merchants, community patrons, and St. Michael parishioners. This is an annual program that all Knights of Columbus councils participate in to raise money to help centers that help people with intellectual disabilities.

Councils send 20 percent of their donations to the Kansas State Council and 80 percent is returned to the councils to give to local centers that help people with intellectual disabilities.

Last year, the Kansas State Council donated $22,500 to finance the Kansas Special Olympics Basketball Tournament held in Hays, and the balance will be spent on religious education for people with intellectual disabilities.

State Community Activities Director Richard Broz says the Kansas goal is to raise $320,000 this year and is nearing that goal as most councils have reported their donations.
