Bishop Ronald Gilmore’s mother dies in Pittsburg, Kans.

Maxine R. Gilmore, 81, of Frontenac, Kans., died Jan. 29, 2005 at Cornerstone Village, Pittsburg, Kans.

Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore was the celebrant at his mother’s funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Feb. 1. Concelebrating the liturgy were Bishop Eugene J. Gerber and 24 priests, 10 of whom were from the Diocese of Dodge City.

Burial followed in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Pittsburg.

Maxine Gilmore was born Jan. 20, 1924 in Cherokee, Kan., to Fred T. and Olive Marie (McClure) McColm. She was a lifelong resident of the area.

She married Leo S. Gilmore in Chicopee on June 28, 1941. He survives.

Maxine worked for St. Mary’s School for 13 years as the lunch room ticket taker. She retired in 1988. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Altar Society, AARP, and the UCT.

In addition to her husband and her son, Bishop Gilmore, Maxine is survived by three other sons: Dennis Gilmore, Athens, TX; Leo Alan Gilmore, Woodlands, TX; and Richard Gilmore, Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one great-grandchild on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charles McColm and John McColm; and one sister, Marie Kastelic.
