Interfaith gathering March 11 at cathedral

"Swords Into Plowshares: The Call to Peace and Justice in the Hebrew Scriptures" will feature a panel discussion on various themes based on texts from the Hebrew Scriptures on Thursday, March 11 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City.

Panelists will include Rabbi Michael Davis, Monsignor Brian R. Moore, and the Reverend Gary Cox.

The donation for this day of dialogue is $6 per participant and advance registration and payment by March 3 is required. Make checks payable to Catholic Diocese of Dodge City and mail to: Catholic Diocese of Dodge City, Attn: Pam Polley, P.O. Box 137, Dodge City, Kan. 67801.

According to Bishop Ronald Gilmore, "The struggle for peace and justice is indeed a concern that binds us together, the meeting point on which we will find much common ground. As foundational documents for both Judaism and the Christian tradition, the Hebrew Scriptures gives us particular insights into God’s ‘hesed,’ his enduring love for his people, as well as his special concern for all the poor and the oppressed, from Hebrew slaves escaping Pharoah’s chariots, to alien peole living in the promised land."

Rabbi Davis has been the spiritual leader of Congregation Emanu-El in Wichita since August 1995. Before that, he served as a rabbi in Florida and New York. He currently serves as Board Chair of the Wichita Chapter of the National Conference for Community and Justice.

Rev. Cox is an ordained of the united Church of Christ and serves as the Senior Minister at University Congregational Church in Wichita. He is a community activist, and serves with People of Faith for Peace, among several other organizations.

Msgr. Moore wears several hats for the Diocese of Dodge City, including Director of Formation, Diocesan Liturgist, Director of Liturgy and Worship, Director of Pastoral Ministry Formation, among others.
