Cathedral youth present mission fundraiser Feb. 15

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish mission youth group will present "A Night at the Cross" and will host a Homemade Italian Dinner Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. in the Holy Family Social Center.

The youth are presenting the evening to raise money to finance their summer mission trip to Benton Harbor, Mich., where they will conduct vacation Bible school and participate in a number of service projects. Twenty-eight high school youth and five adults will be participating in the June 26-July 3 mission.

The Italian Dinner will be followed by "A Night at the Cross," a presentation of living stations of the cross with solemn readings and acting.

The Homemade Italian Dinner will include salad, spaghetti (with sauce made from scratch), fresh baked bread and dessert.

Tickets for the evening can be purchased at the cathedral parish office, or by calling Sue Gier at (620) 227-2926. The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under.

Carnival, spaghetti dinner Feb. 15

The Catholic R.O.C.K. Youth Group is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner and carnival from 3-7 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 15, at Marienthal Grade School. Dinner is $5; children under 5 eat free. Games will be 25 cents and include a Cake Walk, "Bible candy," Free Throw, "Washers," and many more.

Interfaith gathering March 11

The Diocese of Dodge City will present the interfaith gathering and dialogue, "Swords into Plowshares: The Call to Peace and Justice in the Hebrew Scriptures," from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Featured presenters will include Rabbi Michael Davis of Temple Emanu-El in Wichita, and Msgr. Brian Moore. A representative of the Wichita based Interfaith Ministries will also be present. This event is open to anyone in the diocese and the interfaith community. Lunch will be served for a small fee.

Crafters sought for Sacred Heart fair

The Sacred Heart Cougar Craft Fair is looking for crafters and donators from all areas. Dodge City Sacred Heart School is having an Arts & Crafts Fair on April 24. People are sought who would like to donate items, time, or funding. Organizers are also looking for crafters who would like to have a booth or share one with a friend.

Scholarship application available

The Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas scholarship application for the 2004-05 academic year is now available. Applications can be picked up at the following Dodge City locations: Sunflower Bank (main bank); Bank of America (all branches); Fidelity State Bank (north branch and main bank); Landmark National Bank (main bank); and Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas office (Hennessy Hall on the former St. Mary of the Plains campus, west entrance).

Tour of ‘Shrines of the South U.S.A.’

Matilda Danler of Kinsley announces the upcoming tour of the "Shrines of the South U.S.A." April 15-23. With Father James Grennan serving as spiritual guide, the tour will visit the Mount Grace Convent for Vespers and Benediction with the Pink Sisters in St. Louis; Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Ala.; EWTN television show in Birmingham, Ala.; Family Mission in Morrilton, Ark; and Precious Moments in Carthage, Mo. The tour will also attend the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, walk the renowned Music Square, and offer a visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

How Am I Carrying My Cross Daily?"

Sunday, March 7, 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Instructor: Sister Jolene Geier, OP

Cost: Free-will donation

Please register for meals: brunch - $4.00, supper - $5.50

This Lenten Day of Prayer will begin with Morning Prayer and Sunday Eucharist, followed by brunch. At 11:30 a.m., Sister Jolene will preach the conference: How Am I Carrying My Daily Cross? Adoration hours will follow through the afternoon, ending with a Holy Hour at 4:30 p.m. which will include evening prayer and rosary.

Chocolate Festival Feb. 14 in Kinsley

KINSLEY -- "A Chocolate Affair" will be held Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Kinsley City Building from 1-3:30 p.m. Several varieties of chocolate desserts and candies will be served.

The cost is $5 per person for the all-you-can-eat buffet. Proceeds will go for scholarships for the P.E.O. educational organization.
