Cathedral School Auction set

The annual auction for Sacred Heart Cathedral School will be held Jan. 31, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Dodge City.

Social hour begins at 5 p.m., with dinner starting at 6 p.m. The oral auction will follow dinner. Those attending will also be able to bid on silent auction items donated by individuals and many Dodge City businesses.

Some of the oral auction items include: a three-day weekend at a condo at Angel Fire, N.M., a digital camera, a 750 Troy built Versa-Tiller, a chartered plane to Wichita for a day, a sculptured wine bottle holder, and a one-year membership to Curves.

Tickets are $12.50 each and are available at the school office, after weekend Masses at the cathedral, or by calling Lori George at (620) 227-2012, or Debby Slattery at (620) 227-3956.

Tour of ‘Shrines of the South U.S.A.’

Matilda Danler of Kinsley announces the upcoming tour of the "Shrines of the South U.S.A." April 15-23. With Father James Grennan serving as spiritual guide, the tour will visit the Mount Grace Convent for Vespers and Benediction with the "Pink Sisters" in St. Louis; Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament of Our Lady of the Angels Monastery in Hanceville, Ala.; EWTN television show in Birmingham, Ala.; Family Mission in Morrilton, Ark; and Precious Moments in Carthage, Mo. The tour will also attend the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, walk the renowned Music Square, and will offer a visit to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

RCIA retreat Feb. 7, 14

The RCIA retreat, "A Creative Walk With Christ," is for all parishes and individuals engaged in the RCIA program -- including catechumens, candidates, sponsors, and teams. This retreat is a time of reflection and prayer in preparation for, and the enrichment of, the Lenten Scrutinies. Presenters include Lorena Bolte OP & Jolene Geier OP (English); Matilde Monterrose MCMI & Maria Elena Martinez MCMI (Spanish). The retreat will take place at the Heartland Center for Spirituality, 3600 Broadway, Great Bend Saturday, Feb. 7 from, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe at 3231 N 14th, Dodge City on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in English and Spanish. Rates are $50 per parish plus $15 per person or $30 per individual (lunch included). Homeopathic Remedies for Health

Jan. 31, Saturday 9 a.m. – noon

Instructors: Andy Hefner ND and Anita Schugart OP

Cost is $30.

Homeopathy is a healing process in which medicines stimulate and encourage the body’s natural healing forces. This class will offer lessons about this natural system of medicine and the specific homeopathic remedies that are most commonly used.

Dr. Andy Hefner of Hefner Health Center in Great Bend graduated from both the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland and the Hahnemann Memorial Institute of Homeopathic Medicine in Bradenton Fla. He studied cardiology at the University of Vienna, Austria.

Sister Anita Schugart is the Director of Heartland Center for Wholistic Health in Great Bend. In 1986 she attended Dr. Jay Scherer’s Academy of Natural Healing in Santa Fe where she studied basic homeopathic theory and other related healing modalities.

John’s gospel is written as a drama, with striking contrasts, dizzying paradoxes and tragic ironies. This second half of John will take participants to the heart of John’s portrayal of Jesus’ true identity as the revelation of God. During these sessions, participants will place themselves in the role of being the disciple that Jesus loved, and hopefully deepen their personal relationship with Jesus.

‘Walk for a Beating Heart’

to aid local ministries

The Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home and its outreach program, Rachel’s Vineyard Ministries, will sponsor a Walk for a Beating Heart at 9 a.m. Feb. 14. There will be two, 2-mile walks. The main event will take place at the Center for Health Improvement, Hays Medical Center 2500 Canterbury Dr., Hays. Another event will take place at the same time and date at Sacred Heart Church, 585 N. French, Colby.

Anyone wishing to obtain pledges, but is unable to attend the walk, contact Robben, and she will find a replacement walker. All individuals completing pledge sheets of $50 or more will receive a free long-sleeved T -shirt.

There will be coffee, juice and donuts following the walk sponsored by St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus and St. Nicholas’ Knights of Columbus, Hays.

The Mary Elizabeth Maternity Home is a nurturing Christian environment where unwed mothers can bring their pregnancies to term while continuing their education and learning skills that will enable them to lead self-sufficient and happier lives.

Rachel’s Vineyard Ministries is a national program designed by psychotherapist Theresa Burke, which helps anyone affected by abortions by providing a safe environment where individuals can confront their loss, mourn and begin the healing process.

Both ministries are non-profit organizations relying on the generosity of the public to continue helping others.
