Why I like going to a Catholic school
By Ian Sheppard Holy Family School, Great Bend I am lucky. I attend Holy Family School in Great Bend, Kansas. I can explain to you why I am lucky and what I like about going to a Catholic school by looking at the name of mine, Holy Family School. I think it says it all. My school is a holy place where we are all free to practice our Catholic faith. We participate in the sacraments and take an active part in the Mass. We sing and celebrate Jesus everyday as a group and we study our faith in our classrooms. We see reminders of Jesus everyday too. There is a large wooden cross in the commons and crucifixes to remind us of His sacrifice for us. Holy describes my school and I like that. Going to a Catholic school is like being with my family. The faces I see every day are ones I know. If I am scared or sad or worried I know the teachers care about me, just like at home. I feel good when I am there and know the people there want the best for me. My school is like family to me. I like going to a Catholic school because they teach me new things everyday. I am encouraged to work hard and do my best. The grading scale is high, so I must work hard to get good grades. That is okay, because I know in the future this will help me. I am also taught to respect people and treat everyone like I would like to be treated. My school helps me learn about everything. If you really want to know how I feel about going to a Catholic school, all can say is it’s the name, Holy Family School. It says it all. |
Witnessing Christ in action
By Joan Henning Fifth Grade Teacher, Holy Family It is great to come to work in a place where God is the center of what we do. How many other people can share their faith and go to Mass as part of their job? I am very lucky. The students who attend Holy Family School are sent by their parents to receive an education where God can be an essential entity. Religion should be an important part of a child’s education. In making religion part of a student’s school experience, the students seem to see the importance of treating others kindly and with respect. It is awesome to be able to help students make decisions with God as their guide. The students enjoy the time they get to spend exploring the Bible and learning about their faith. They not only experience God in religion class, but also in mass twice a week and in all the subjects that are taught. The faith based morals these students acquire from school and at home will help them to make better life decisions. The teachers and staff that work at Holy Family are all there for the same reason, the students. They are a wonderful support system and are like family to me. We are all working toward a common goal. To make the student’s education experience a positive one with God as the center. When asked, "Why I choose to teach in a Catholic school?" many reasons came to mind. The teachers, the students, and parents were just some of them. But after some thought, being able to witness Christ in action through the students was the best reason I could find. |
