Survival games were part of the Saturday evening activities at the Quest 2004 weekend.

The annual Quest Weekend was held on the campus of Dodge City Community College Jan. 9-11. The theme was, "I Survived Because of My Faith."

Thirty-five Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and adult leaders participated in the activities.

The scouts used the weekend to work toward requirements for different religious emblems and medals. Some of the youth begin work at one Quest weekend, work on service projects and other requirements throughout the year, and complete the program the following year at Quest. The award programs cannot be completed in a weekend.

Three girl scouts received the Marian Medal: Carly Champlin of Garden City; Carrie Shinogle of Plains, and Tiffany Schauvliege of Jetmore. The Marian Medal program is designed to enable young women to "proclaim the greatness of the Lord." It features active involvement in understanding Mary as a model of openness and spirituality -- a woman in the Church.

Three boy scouts received the Pope Pius XII award: Derek Champlin of Garden City; Tylan Ricketts of Sublette, and Christopher Shinogle of Plains. This program reflects the ideal of youths’ growing concern with the world of God as well as the human world. It recognizes the need for Catholic lay leaders in Church and community affairs and of scouting’s potential in developing such leadership. The program helps to form young adults in Christ with a desire for serious commitments to action and geared to their role as Christians.

The other girl scouts attending began work on the "I Live My Faith" program, the Marian Medal program or the Spirit Alive program. The boy scouts attending began work on either the Ad Altare Dei award or the Pope Pius XII award.
