Yoga for emotional and physical health
Jan. 29 Saturday 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Instructor: Paula Schwartzkopf
Cost: $10
"If we learn how to control our breath, we can learn to influence how we feel both emotionally and physically. Deeper and smoother breathing slows the heart beat, clears the head and relaxes the body. It also increases the production of endorphins, which are the body’s own natural tranquilizer. This session will provide deeper insight on the value of yoga and also give participants the experience of very simple yoga stretches."
Paula Schwartzkopf is an experienced yoga instructor who practices in Great Bend. Since 1992, she has participated in the Institute of Interdisciplinary Yoga Studies in Wichita which has featured presenters such as Bobbie Golden of Miami, Fla., Aadil Palkhivala of Bellevue, Wash., and Rod Stryker of Los Angeles.
Dreams: God’s Calling Cards
Feb. 4 – 5
Friday 7 p.m.- Saturday 3:30 p.m.
Instructors: Sisters Joel Christoph, OP, and Christine Wagner, LCP
Cost: $50 (includes overnight room, 2 meals and workshop)
"Dreams have always been one among many ways that God gifts us with the reality of divine presence. Working and playing with our dreams is potentially prayer. It allows us to listen with reverence and imagination to our deeper self and to the Spirit that dwells within. We will introduce ‘dream work’ within a supportive Christian atmosphere that encourages self exploration, informs and exercises imaginative knowing, invites communal sharing and will hopefully enrich and enlarge our spiritual lives."
Sister Joel is a spiritual director in her practicum year with the Souljourners Program. She has journaled and worked with her dreams as part of her spiritual discipline for more than 20 years. Sister Wagner offers "creative counseling," an alternative to pathology-based psychotherapy, in Hays. She is also a teacher and visual artist with a series of paintings and written reflections largely inspired by dreams.

We were made to love our God from whose hands we come. When we turn aside from that love we enter the deserts of our poor choices. Lent is the time to leave the desert of our addictive choices and return the love of God. The day includes Morning and Evening Prayer, Eucharist, conference at 11:30 and Adoration hours with Rosary meditations on the Sorrowful Mysteries."
