Seventh, eighth graders celebrate gift of Christ, each other

Twenty-two campers and seven counselors attended the recent diocesan summer camp at Camp Lakeside near Scott City.

Ten campers from St. Anthony Parish, Fowler, and St. Patrick Parish, Plains, represent the Church built upon the rock.

There was plenty of time for fun and games. Four campers determine, "How many balloons can I get stuck on me?"

Campers reflect on the "Stations of the Cross."

Campers do their best imitation of the Village People performing "YMCA."

Camp participants enjoy some kite flying fun in the beautiful backdrop of Camp Lakeside.

June 21-24 marked the dates for the second diocesan summer camp, Alpha – Omega, Eternity.

Twenty –two seventh and eighth graders, along with seven counselors, came together for four days of fun, laughter, games and much time experiencing God’s gifts in the atmosphere of Camp Lakeside.

Some of God’s greatest gifts are those of bonding and friendship, and with such a small group, both of these gifts were found in this camping experience. Not only were the campers able to get to know each other on a more personal level, but the counselors were able to get to know each camper in a very special way.

Summer camp is designed to do just this -- to bring young people together and help them experience Christ and deepen their faith in an outdoor atmosphere. Our hope is that each camper will meet other young people from around the diocese forming friendships which will last a lifetime. In this process, they also have the opportunity to work with young adults and adults -- people who truly care about them and have a special gift of helping them experience their Catholic faith in a special way.

This summer camp accomplished all of these things and more. To see this more clearly, please study the pictures and reflect on the captions. Then begin setting your sights on next summer and the camping experience. Together, how many young people can we help enjoy the same time with God?
