My Books and Rocking Chair
by Agnes HallI sit alone by the fire and rock,
in my old rocking chair.
I’ve seen everything,
and I’ve been everywhere,
And never left my old rocking chair.
I’ve sailed down the rivers,
in show boats,
And swam in the ocean out there.
I’ve fished and I’ve skied,
and had me a ball,
But I never left my old rocking chair.
I went to the Far East to visit,
and travelled around to the West.
I talked to the Stars out in Hollywood,
and then on to see the World’s Fair.
I learned a lot on my way,
and I never left my old rocking chair.
I panned for gold in Alaska,
and hunted the frozen lands for a bear.
I ate a dinner of fresh salmon,
right here in my old rocking chair.
I’ve danced barefoot in Hawaii,
and wore a flower so bright in my hair.
I stayed up and watched for the sunrise,
all from my old rocking chair.
Now I’m really too old to travel,
but I don’t intend to just sit here and stare.
I’ll pick up my books, and go traveling away,
right from my old rocking chair.
