The La Crosse Knights of Columbus Co. #2970 took on the project of reshingling St. Michael’s Rectory, as it was a total loss from last year’s hail storm. The Knights asked for volunteers from the parish and ended up with 18 adult men and three youth who worked at different times to strip the old shingles, prepare the roof for the new shingles and put on the new roof. Work started on Friday morning, June 2, with the men who could come to work at different times, working through Saturday evening. The roof was completed the following Monday evening with about three hours of work left to do. The following Knights and parishioners provided their much needed labor and expertise: Dennis Bittel, Patrick Depperschmidt, Troy Engel, Shawn Harding, Bill Jacobs, Johnny Klassen, Justin Klenda, Kevin Moeder, Marcus Moeder, Matt Moeder, Nick Moeder, Marshall Musil, Rick Schmidt, Dale Snyder, Bill Stark, Darryl Urban, Benny Viegra, Chris Viegra, Darren Viegra, Steve Wellbrock, and Kevin Zimmer. The Knights are very appreciative of the following for their help in providing much needed equipment: Local contractor Shelby Burk, the Eck Brothers from Ellis, Kyle Wherry and Darren Viegra loaned air compressors, air hoses, nail guns and other needed tools to complete the project. Enslinger Lumber provided its fork lift to put the shingles on the roof. Leroy Penka and Frank Seidel brought their trucks to haul away the old shingles and materials. Several parishioners offered refreshments and food for the crew. The good Lord provided some good hot weather and answered many prayers as the workers completed the project. The La Crosse Knights of Columbus Co. #2970 members say many thanks to those who helped complete this project. May the good Lord reward you a million times over.
