Sgt. Benjamin Morton, 24, who was killed in Iraq May 22, was laid to rest June 2 in Wright following a funeral Mass at St. Andrew Church. Mourners filled the church and the parish center next door to standing room only capacity. The Mass was celebrated by Wright pastor Father Robert Schremmer, who spoke in his homily of the range of emotions in the human hearts gathered there. "How moving, how inspiring, how humbling. With such a cacophony of emotion, with such a competition of feelings, that faith somehow seems always to edge everything else out." At St. Andrew Cemetery, Fort Riley soldiers honored Sgt. Morton with a three-volley salute, and the bugle call "Taps." Soldiers also presented Morton’s family with several posthumous awards.
