DODGE CITY -- Only a handful of people who attended the ordinations of Fathers Wesley Schawe and Trong Tran knew that hidden behind the choir’s stage at the cathedral was Father Henry Hildebrandt, techno-wizard. Surrounded by computer monitors and with a cell phone adhered to his palm, Father Hildebrandt, Director of Technical Services, simultaneously filmed (with the help of three cameramen whom he directed via closed-circuit phone) and edited a video of the ordinations. Because he had three digital cameras (two of which were perched on dizzyingly high platforms) being fed directly into his central unit, he was able to edit the video as the event took place. What would typically take weeks to edit and splice together, instead took ... well, the video was finished as the two new priests left the sanctuary. Despite being the first time Father Hildebrandt used the equipment to film a major function, the result is a very professional looking presentation. Videos are available for approximately $10. Father Hildebrandt will be using the same technique to film a Called & Gifted workshop at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Dodge City June 10-12, which will be distributed internationally. Father Hildebrandt needs volunteers to attend the program. He also needs three camera operators, who will be paid to assist him. For more information, to be a camera operator, or to attend, call Father Hildebrandt at (620) 385-2212, or email him at hhildebrandt@dcdiocese.org. |
