Holy Family School achieves Standard of Excellence

Great Bend – Holy Family School has been recognized for having attained the Standard of Excellence on the 2004 statewide assessments in Math at the 4th grade level. The school recently received a certificate of achievement from the State Board of Education in recognition of its accomplishments.

Attaining the Standard of Excellence requires having a significant portion of the student body scoring at the advanced and exemplary levels. Standard of Excellence schools must show evidence of moving students out of the lower performance levels on the state assessment. Statewide, 46.5 percent of schools reached the Standard of Excellence in Math at the fourth grade level, according to the State Department of Education.

"Attaining the Standard of Excellence speaks highly of the efforts of the school staff to ensure all students are learning," said State Board of Education Chair, Janet Waugh. "This accomplishment is something in which the entire community can take pride."

School officials are pleased with the performance of students on the state assessments, and are quick to credit the efforts of students and faculty. "It is a constant responsibility of Holy Family School to ensure student learning and to see to it that all students continue to be successful," said Holy Family School Principal, Karen Moeder.

To express appreciation to the school faculty, staff, and students, Holy Family School planned several activities to celebrate this accomplishment. Including a special recognition assembly for those students who received an individual exemplary status on the state assessments and a classroom party for those students who scored the standard of excellence on the 2004 state math assessment. All students of Holy Family School should be commended for their pride in themselves and in their school.
