RCIA retreat: Learning lessons along the faith journey |

participants from across the diocese attended the first of two RCIA
retreats offered by the Dominican Sisters of Great Bend’s Heartland Center
for Spirituality. The Spanish presenters were Sisters Matilde Monterrose
and Maria Elena Martinez. Sisters Lorena Bolte and Jolene Geier led the
English participants. On Feb. 5, the RCIA retreat was held at the
Heartland Center in Great Bend with 32 participants. Sisters Lorena and
Jolene provided spiritual direction for the group. The participants
reflected on the temptations of Jesus, as well as the three Lenten
scrutiny scriptures of the Samaritan woman at the well, the healing of the
blind man, and the raising of Lazarus.
Comments from the participants included: "Having all the symbols of the desert helped me understand the Lenten season better, with Jesus going out into the desert for 40 days." "The RCIA Retreat made me think about myself, what I am doing with my life, and how I can improve it. It also helped me learn more about how to reflect on the scriptures." "The RCIA Retreat helped me realize that there are more people than myself that want to better understand Jesus Christ. and that our community is here to help each other to live better, to be better disciples of Christ." "We looked inside ourselves and examined our feelings about God and how he impacts our life." "The RCIA Retreat helped me gently and lovingly to look at my sins. The time for quiet and reflection was so healing, as well as all of the music, symbols, and environment used." "Took me from tired, cranky, and self-pitying to encouraged and open to God." "We may be in darkness at times, but there is always light in the darkness and hope if you trust in God." "The RCIA Retreat gave me the chance to discuss my views with others. I don't get that chance too often because my friends are not very religious." "The temptation of Jesus. We are faced with temptations everyday and it is up to us how we deal with them." "The RCIA Retreat helped me to realize how we can get closer to Jesus. Turn our lives over to God and let Him show us what He has in store for us."
