Obituaries

   Leonard “LennieManeth, Jr., 54, of St. Ann Parish, Omitz, died Nov. 8, 2006. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2100. Among his other jobs, Maneth served as a farmer and stockman. Survivors include five daughters, Wendy Brack, Liston Marsh, Lori Maneth, Lisa Hamel, and Amber Maneth; his mother, Marcella Maneth; two brothers, Edward and David Maneth; three sisters, Diana Wilson, Jolene Dozier, and Mary Kay Harbert; and nine grandchildren. Fathers Ultan Murphy and Joe Bahr presided.

James H. Dishon, 76, of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Dodge City, died Feb. 24, 2007. He was an engineer for the Dodge City Fire Department for 24 years, and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Survivors include two sons, James S. Dishon and John Dishon; three daughters, Linae Tabor, Linda Nelson, and Joan Carol Solomon; a brother, Keith R. Hardesty; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Father Ted A. Skalsky presided.

Kay E. Chadd, 71, a resident of Clifton, Tex., formerly of St. John, died Feb. 21, 2007. Survivors include: brothers Rolly, Lynn, Lonnie and Tony; and sisters Jewel Broadfoot and Shirley O’Dell.

Mary Jean “Jeanie” Blagrave, 68, of St. Anthony Parish, Liberal, died Feb. 28, 2007. She was a volunteer for Southwest Medical Center Auxiliary for 27 years. Survivors include a son, Phillip; a daughter, Anita Thompson; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Father John Fahey presided.

Freda Marie Hink, 74, of St. Joseph Church, Ashland, died Feb. 28, 2007. She was a homemaker and school bus driver for Ashland Englewood District. Survivors include two sons, William Gene and Daniel Lynn; two daughters, Sue Ann Miller and Shirley Ann Faris; her mother, Florence Dochant Brown; a brother, Leland D. Brown; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Father Maurice Cummings and Minister Jim Sutherland presided.

Clara C. Huelskamp, 102, of St. Anthony Church, Fowler, died Feb. 27, 2007. She belonged to the Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. Survivors include two sons, James and Leroy; three daughters, Florence Hampel, Betty McCullough, and Helen Spachek; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Father Angel Dy presided.

Bernice Loretta Pfeiff, 83, of St. Dominic Church, Garden City, died March 3, 2007. She belonged to the Daughters of Isabella and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons, Frank and Thomas; a daughter, Judy Arredondo; three brothers, Leonard, Louis, and John Hoffman; two sisters, Gertrude McDougall and Joanne Pfeiff; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Father Joseph Bahr presided.

Marilyn P. Thomas, 65, of St. Dominic Church, Garden City, died March 3, 2007. She was a partner and bookkeeper for Agri Parts Center. She belonged to the Altar Society and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Dominic’s. She is survived by her husband, Frankie Thomas; a son, Brocky; a daughter, Tina Tillemans; her mother, Audrey Herron Reimer; a brother, Don Reimer; a sister, Jeanette Wehkamp; and six grandchildren. Father Joseph Bahr presided.

Victor J. Jacobs, 82, of Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend, died March 6, 2007. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include  two sons; two daughters; two brothers; three sisters, including, Virginia Schlegel and Bridgette Karst; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Father Reginald A. Urban presided.

Fidel Trejo, 70, of St. Anthony Parish, Liberal, died March 6, 2007. A longtime resident of Meade, he was a farmhand for many years before working for National Beef Packing Plant and retiring from Excel Packing Plant. He is survived by his wife, Alicia DeLeon; four sons, Juan, Jose, Fidel Jr., and Jerry; three daughters, Mae Meek, Alice Pfanenstiel, and Julia Trejo Turner; five brothers, two sisters, and 17 grandchildren. Father John Fahey presided.

Bryan L. Brazda, 43, of Prince of Peace Parish, Great Bend, died March 6, 2007. He was a grocery manager for Dillons, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Paula Jo Habig; his mother, Leona Slattery Brazda; a son, Ben; two daughters, Katie and Mickie; two brothers, Bret and Brad; and two sisters, Devon Dionisi and Cindy Suchy. Father Reginald A. Urban presided.

Joe A. Dasenbrock, 80, of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, died March 7, 2007. He was a farmer and stockman. He is survived by his wife, Nedra Hurd; three sons, Larry, Steve, and Tim; four daughters, Jolene Durler, Theresa Dasenbrock Walker, Susan Urban, and Brenda McFall; a sister, Magdalene McGroarty; and 10 grandchildren. Diana R. Ford, 57, of Leoti, died March 8, 2007. She was a nurse. Survivors include her husband, Bob Ford; a son, Robert Immekus; her mother, Matilda Newcomer; three brothers, Jerry Molner, Ricky Molner, and Lloyd Molner; four sisters, Bertie Molner, Faye Molner, Carol Ann Molnerand Linda Molner.

Herman J. Zecha, 87, of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Hoisington, died March 8, 2007. He worked for the city of Hoisington , and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include a son, Paul; three brothers, Raymond, Victor, and Clarence; four sisters, Agnes Penka, Matilda Penka, Doris Weiser, and Lucille Schneweis; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Father Pascal Klein presided.

Wilma “Billie” Hessman, 91, of the Cathedral of Guadalupe Parish, Dodge City, died March 10, 2007. She taught elementary grades in Ford and Gray counties and Cimarron. She belonged to the Daughters of Isabella, Dominican Associates, and was also a volunteer game organizer at Manor of the Plains. Survivors include a son, Steve Hessman; two daughters, L’Jean Dixon and Sue Gier; a sister, Esther Bognery; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Father Ted A. Skalsky presided.
