DODGE CITY – Religious emblems were awarded at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Scout Sunday, Feb. 2, to nine members of Cub Scout Pack 162.

Father Ted Skalsky presented Light of Christ and Parvuli Dei medals to those young scouts who had completed the requirements for each award.

The Light of Christ medal is presented in special recognition to a cub scout for advancement in the religious knowledge and spiritual growth. The purpose of the program is to help the scout develop a personal relationship with Jesus as found through the expression of the sacraments. The program deals primarily with sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and the Eucharist. Light of Christ recipients were: Colton Farra, Esteban Garcia, and Hayden Winter.

The Parvuli Dei medal (Latin for Children of God), also recognizes a cub scout for advancement in religious knowledge and spiritual growth. The purpose of the program is to help young boys explore a wide range of activities in order to discover the presence of God in their daily lives as members of their families and parish. Parvuli Dei recipients were: Clay Carpenter, Brett Groth, Matthew Haselhorst, Call Rankin, Alex Ultreras, and Matthew Vogel.
