Two RCIA Retreats for catechumens, candidates with sponsors, spouses and team members were conducted at the Heartland Center for Spirituality in Great Bend and at the Cathedral in Dodge City, directed by Dominican Sisters Lorene Bolte and Jolene Geier with S. Matilde Monterrose MCMI directing the Hispanic group in Dodge City.

On Feb. 7, 42 participants were present at Heartland Center from Sacred Heart, Pratt, the Catholic Community St. Rose and St. Patrick’s, Great Bend, St. Anthony, Leoti, St. John’s, Hoisington, Barber County, St. Boniface, Holy Rosary, and Sharon and Holy Savior from Wichita.

On the following Saturday, Feb. 14, in Dodge City, 54 people attended the Spanish retreat and 24 the English retreat. The parishes in attendance included the Cathedral, St. Andrew’s Wright, St. Mary’s Garden City, St. Alphonsus, Satanta, St. Anthony, Liberal, St. Joan of Arc, Elkhart.

The retreatants had a creative walk with Jesus by reflecting on the three scrutiny scripture passages of the Woman at the Well, the Man Born Blind and The Rising of Lazarus. Through personal reflection, group discussion, prayer and ritual the participants deepened their relationship with Christ in their preparation on entering into the next phase of their RCIA journey toward Easter.
