Albert Strobel receives Bronze Pelican Award

The Catholic Committee on Scouting for the Diocese of Dodge City approved and recommended to Bishop Ronald Gilmore for Albert Strobel to receive the Bronze Pelican Award.

Sunday, Feb. 8, Father Reginald Urban and Nancy Rziha, District Chairman of Cheyenne District, Quivira Council presented him with the award, which is given to Boy Scout, Girl Scout or Camp Fire Leaders who have shown awareness and concern for the spiritual growth of youths.

The early Christians believed that mother pelicans shed their blood to feed their young, and thus were a fitting symbol for Christ, and that symbolism is carried out still in the Bronze Pelican Award.

Strobel is Cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 151, now in its 49th year and sponsored initially by St. Rose Parish and now the Catholic Community of Great Bend. Strobel’s participation in scouting started as partner to his son Evan in Tiger Cubs. Evan is now in his fifth year of scouting. Strobel has been Den Leader of the Tiger Cubs for the past two years and has earned Trained status. Strobel took a leadership role in family camping, along with regular Cub Scout camping opportunities.

Strobel and his wife, Tami, have three children who attend Holy Family School. He has served as chairman of the Holy Family School Council and the Liturgy Committee and has been a member of St. Rose choir for 14 years and an active member of Knights of Columbus #862 in Great Bend. Strobel is with CPI Qualified Plan Consultants, Inc. in Great Bend.
