Feb. 11-12 Called & Gifted Workshop a spiritual, entertaining Christmas gift
Young adult event to take place at Santa Fe Depot; $20 includes workshop, meals, show
Young people ages 20-39 who are wondering what Christmas gift they will give to their spouse, may want to consider the Feb. 11-12 Called & Gifted Workshop.
Not only will the workshop take them through some simple and spiritual exercises that will allow them to recognize their special gifts of the Holy Spirit, but they’ll get to enjoy some great theater, as well.
The workshop will take place at the Dodge City Santa Fe train depot beginning at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, and concluding with a Mass at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
On Saturday evening, the Boot Hill Theater will treat participants to dinner and a performance of "Flaming Idiots." The price for the dinner theater alone is regularly $35 per person.
The Diocese of Dodge City has made it possible for all workshop participants to attend both the workshop and the dinner theater for a total price of $20.
"Flaming Idiots" takes place in a restaurant kitchen, where "two young entrepreneurs are struggling to get their new restaurant off the ground. They wish they could have the built-in popularity of the place down the street, which was once the site of a mob hit — you can still see the bullet holes. Wait — what if we arranged a fake mob hit in our restaurant? Of course, we’d need a body ..."
In addition to a night of theater, participants are invited to discover, discern, and learn to develop their gifts given them by the Holy Spirit.
This workshop is especially beneficial for:
• single and married young adults discerning career/vocational direction;
• parents who want to help their children live their faith and recognize their gifts;
• cradle Catholics and active parishioners;
• new or returning Catholics who want to explore what it means to live their faith as an adult.
In the workshop participants will learn:
• how discerning your call and your vocation...
...can change your own life
...can change the world and help spread the Gospel
...can help transform and renew our parishes;
• the signs and characteristics of 24 of the most common spiritual gifts;
• five steps of discerning the gifts God has given you for your work in the world.
Bishop Ronald Gilmore has offered the following invitation to the diocese’s young adults:
"The Church, our diocese, and I want young adults to share their ideas, dreams, aspirations, their gifts. We want you involved in the life of the church so that our church may touch our world with the youthful zeal of Christ himself who lived his life of ministry as a young adult. Please join me at the depot for a weekend to discover your gifts for which our church and, even more, our world has been waiting."
The workshop is expected to fill up fast. For registration information, call Becky Hessman, (620) 227-1530.
