The event included a Mass celebrated by Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore, renewal of marriage vows, blessing of the wedding rings, and a supper that followed.

"It has ... been said that marriage is the reality that best reveals the relationship between the redeeming Christ and the people he redeemed," Bishop Gilmore said in his homily. "Why did Christ redeem us? Because he loved us, and he wanted to be with us. Each time a man and a woman come together in marriage, they are living out the mystery of the redeeming Christ."

The longest married couple that was honored was Gilbert and Barbara Knipp of Scott City, married 67 years. During the celebration, all the couples held hands and renewed their vows.

"We have grown together over the years," first the husbands, then the wives said. "We have seen good times and bad, sickness and health. We have watched our family grow and seen our love deepen. Today I renew my commitment to you. I promise to love you and remain faithful to you all the days of my life."

Then the husbands, touching their wife’s wedding band, said, "With this ring, I recommit to you my love and fidelity." And the wives, touching their husband’s wedding band, said, "A ring has no beginning and no end. This ring is a symbol of my love."

Following Mass, couples and their families were treated to a pork dinner, during which Bishop Gilmore presented special certificates to couples married more than 60 years. All couples received a certificate of congratulations.

"Your marriages are the best evangelizing, and the best catechizing tools we have," Bishop GIlmore said. "You are the best expression of what God meant the world and the human persons to be. I am profoundly grateful to you today, as I rejoice with you and with your years of faithful married love. ..."

Más de 150 parejas de la Diócesis de Dodge City y sus familias se reunieron en la Catedral de la Virgen de Guadalupe el pasado 23 de Octubre para celebrar sus aniversarios de boda.

El evento incluía una Misa celebrada por el Obispo Ronald M. Gilmore, la renovación de votos y una cena después.

"Dios que ha creado al hombre por amor; lo ha llamado también al amor, vocación fundamental e innata de todo ser humano" dijo el Obispo Ronald Gilmore. "Porque el hombre fue creado a imagen y semejanza de Dios, que es Amor. Habiéndoles creado Dios hombre y mujer, el amor mutuo entre ellos se convierte en imagen del amor absoluto e indefectible con que Dios ama al hombre. Este amor es bueno, muy bueno, a los ojos del creado. Y este amor que Dios bendice es destinado a ser fecundo y al realizarse en la obra comén del cuidado de la creación. Y los bendijo Dios y les dijo: "sed fecundos y multiplicaos y llenad la tierra y sometedla."

La pareja que más años han estado de casados y que fueron honrados fue Gilbert y Barbara Knipp de Scott City, casados durante 67 años. Durante la celebración, todas las parejas se agarraron de las manos y renovaron sus votos.

"Hemos crecido juntos durante los años", dijeron los esposos y esposas. "Hemos visto tiempos buenos y tiempos malos, enfermedades y salúd. Hemos visto crecer a nuestra familia y hemos visto nuestro amor profundizándose. Hoy renuevo mi compromiso hacia ti. Prometo amarte y permanecer fiel a ti todos los días de mi vida."

Luego los esposos, tocando el anillo de la alianza de su esposa, dijo "Con este anillo, vuelvo a comprometer mi amor y fidelidad hacia ti." Y las esposas, tocando la alianza de sus esposos, dijeron "Un anillo no tiene principio, ni fin. Este anillo es el símbolo de mi amor."

Después de la Misa, las parejas y sus familias fueron invitados a una cena con puerco asado, durante la cual el Obispo Gilmore entregó certificados a las parejas que cumplían sus 60 años ó más de casados. Todas las parejas recibieron certificados de felicitaciones.

La Sagrada Escritura afirma que el hombre y la mujer fueron creados el uno para el otro; no es bueno que el hombre esté solo" dijo el Obispo Gilmore. "La mujer, carne de su carne, su igual, la creatura más semejante al hombre mismo, le es dada por Dios como un auxilio, representando así a Dios que es nuestro auxilio. Por eso deja el hombre a su padre y a su madre y se une a su mujer, y hacen una sola carne. Que esto significa una unión indefectible de sus dos vidas, el Señor mismo recordando cual fue en el principio el plan de Creador; de manera que ya no son dos sino una sola carne."
