Norine Doherty Nuckolls
, 90, of Holy Rosary Parish, Medicine Lodge, died Oct. 6, 2006. She was a member of the Altar Society. She is survived by her husband, Robert Lee Nuckolls Jr.; two sons, Robert L. Nuckolls III and Timothy Nuckolls; two daughters, Bonnie Nuckolls Maples and April Nuckolls Jeanneret; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Father John Strasser presided.Robert J. Fox, 76, of the Catholic Community of Great Bend, died Oct. 9, 2006. He is a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He is survived by six sons, Dan, Jerry, Tom, Tim, Ted, and John; five daughters, Carolyn Willis, Shirley Hammeke, Rose Norris, Nancy Bradford, and Connie Bell; two brothers, Eugene and Melvin; 33 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Terry J. Booth Goodnough, 74, of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Dodge City, died Oct. 7, 2006. She is survived by her husband, Richard L. Goodnough; two daughters, Cheri Lynn Lininger and Mitzi Renee Cox; a sister, Rosalynd Montgomery; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Father Ted A. Skalsky presided.
Della Iona Medina, 76, of Sacred Heart Parish, Larned, died Oct. 10, 2006. She belonged to the Sacred Heart Altar Society. Survivors include three daughters, including, Della "Gina" Timmons; four half brothers; two half sisters; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Father Bernard Felix presided.
Jose de Jesus "Tony" Barrera-Hernandez, 63, of St. Mary’s Parish, Garden City, died Oct. 11, 2006. Survivors include his wife, Raquel (Martinez); four sons, Saul, Osballdo, Gavino, and Jose; three step-daughters, Maria Elena Morales, Veronica Aguiniga, and Patricia Martinez; two brothers, Juan and Jose Luis; four sisters, Alicia Barrera-Hernandez, Antonia Barrera-Hernandez, Maria Barrera-Hernandez and Marcela Barrera-Hernandez; and 23 grandchildren. Beth L. Millsap, 90, of St. Mary’s Parish, Garden City, died Oct. 9, 2006. She was a registered nurse at St. Catherine Hospital until 1960, then was a school nurse for Garden City public schools, returning in 1978 to St. Catherine Hospital, working for a total of 39 years. She was a member of the Citizens Police Academy of Garden City. Survivors include a sister, Jean Mathews. Father James E. Baker presided.
Gregario "George" Banda, 86, of St. Anthony Parish, Lakin, died Oct. 13, 2006. He was a sheep shearer. Survivors include two sons, Joe and Manuel; four daughters, Gloria Cooper, Mary Banda, Adelita Funderburg, and Amelia Martinez; a brother, Frank; a sister, Ketcha Martinez; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Esperanza Gonzalez, 66, of St. Mary’s Parish, Garden City, died Oct. 14, 2006. In 1975, she married Efren Arzate Campos in Mexico. Survivors include five sons, Jorge, Frederico, Eduardo, Efren and Samuel Arzate-Gonzalez; two daughters, Yolanda Gonzalez-Ramirez and Laura Arzate-Gonzalez; four brothers, Luis Gonzalez, Tomas Gonzalez, Jose Gonzalez, and Manuel Gonzalez; three sisters, Refugia Gonzalez, Ignacia Gonzalez, and Jovita Gonzalez; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Benjamin "Ben" F. Schenk, 86, a resident of Otis who belonged to At. Ann Parish, Olmitz, died Oct. 14, 2006. He was a farmer and stockman. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Survivors include two sisters, Stephanie Cain and Fridolina Schenk. Father Ultan Murphy presided.
Alvin Leo Demel, 65, of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Hoisington, died Oct. 14, 2006. He was a farmer and stockman. He belonged to Knights of Columbus Council No. 1521. He is survived by his wife, Patsy A. (Roberts); a son, Brad; a daughter, Teresa Hickel; two brothers, Wayne and Rios "Roy"; three sisters, Eilleen Basye, Mary Bowman, and Rita Seyfert; and five grandchildren. Allan Maurice Roach, 69, of the Catholic Community of Great Bend, died Oct. 15, 2006. He was a farmer, stockman and roughneck. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his mother, Clara Virginia Weathers Roach; his wife, Sharon (Foos); two sons, Sam and Brad; a daughter, Cheryl Keener; a brother, Kenneth; three sisters, Marie Stanley, Teresa Murray, and Clara Ellis; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Joan Leiker, 71, of St. Mary Parish, Garden City, died Oct. 15, 2006. She was a homemaker and volunteered at St. Catherine Hospital for 18 years. She is survived by her husband, Art Leiker; two daughters, Cynthia Romero and Karen Wells; a son, John; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Father James E. Baker officiated.
Chester M. "Chet" Fou-quet, 88, of St. Joseph Parish, Scott City, died Oct. 15, 2006. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-46 as a radio instructor and naval pilot. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, and had served as mayor of Scott City. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. (Dean); three sons, Mark, Dean, and Joe; two daughters, Ronna Cunningham and Anne Crane; 18 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Father Warren Stecklein officiated.
Loretta M. Howell, 84, of St. Joan of Arc Parish, Elkhart, died Oct. 16, 2006. She drove a school bus for 30 years and ran the Elkhart Motel. Survivors include two sons, Charles and Donald ; three daughters, Nancy Nash, Donna Schaffer, and Anita Howell; a brother, Charles Sloan; a sister, Margaret Forbes; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Delfino Dale Salazar, 67, a Deerfield resident who attended St. Anthony Parish, Lakin, died Oct. 14, 2006. He worked at Tyson Fresh Meats, Holcomb. Survivors include two sons, Steve and Robert; two daughters, Tina Medrano and Juanita Salazar; caretaker and goddaughter, Audrey Montoya; two brothers; six sisters; six god-children; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral Mass was held in Colorado.
Teresa Limon, 45, of St. Alphonsus Parish, Satanta, died Oct. 18, 2006. She was a feed truck driver for Miller Feedyard. Survivors include three brothers, Mel Limon, Salvado Limon, and Guadalupe Limon; four sisters, Sister Olga Limon, Odilia Mills, Toni Carbett, and Isidra Small; and many nieces and nephews.
Maurice L. Kolbeck, 75, of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Dodge City, died Oct. 19, 2006. He sang in the church choir and was a 3rd Degree Member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 2955. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette (Hewes); two sons, Steven and Stan; two daughters, Sandra Kirchoff and Sherri Goering; a brother, Gary; a sister, JoAnn Issinghoff; and seven grandchildren. Juanita Smith, 83, of St. John the Apostle Parish, Kiowa, died Oct. 20, 2006. She was a teacher and elementary school principal, retiring in 1988. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Smith; a son, Jeff; a daughter, Suzanne Mahan; two brothers, Charles and Jack; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Father John Strasser presided.
Teresa Mae Ditges, 63, of St. Nicholas Parish, Kinsley, died Oct. 23, 2006. She was a founding member of St. Michaels Holy Hour Chapel, and director of religious education for St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Survivors include her mother, Rosemary Heinz; her husband, Bernard Ditges; two sons; a daughter; two brothers, Craig and Jimmy Heinz; a sister, Darla Stegman; and seven grandchildren. Minnie Beck, 92, of the Catholic Community of Great Bend, died Oct. 22, 2006. She was a 50-year member of Daughters of Isabella. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Van Steenburgh, Lois Koochel, and Marian Beck; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Father Reginald A. Urban presided.

Catherine I. "Katie" Goetz, 94, of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Dodge City, died Oct. 24, 2006. She was a member of the Altar Society.
