Tartans and knits were in vogue as students from the eight Catholic schools in the diocese joined at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Oct. 22 for Diocesan Schools’ Youth Day.

Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore presided at the liturgy and was assisted by priests with schools in their parishes. More than 1,000 students were in attendance.

During Mass, Bishop Gilmore showed students a pyx, the small round metal receptacle used to carry the Eucharist to the sick. He spoke of the greatness of God, who created the mountains and oceans, ever present in the Eucharist.

The students enjoyed a spirited program entitled, "It’s Your Choice," presented by Cleo and Joyce Rucker. Using magic and song, the couple shared a message inviting those gathered to say "no" to drugs, and to not be swayed by peer pressure.
