Ellinwood pair celebrate 100th birthdays 10 days apart

‘Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God, still bearing fruit when they are old, still full of sap, still green ....’

-- Psalm 92: 14-15

Having played together as children, Mamie Robl and Frank Heinz of Ellinwood recently celebrated their 100th birthdays 10 days apart.

On Oct. 30, from their homes at Ellinwood District Hospital and Cedar Park Place, the two each received a surprise visit by Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore, who listened as they shared stories of growing up in Ellinwood.

On Nov. 1, Mamie was brought to the hospital where Frank lives as a resident, and the two celebrated their birthdays together, reminiscing about their "childhood days out on the farm."

"He farmed and she taught in the public school system in Ellinwood for many years," said Doris Robl, the wife of Mamie’s nephew, Leonard. "They lived as neighbors."

In fact, the Robls still live on the farm where Mamie grew up.

"They are very good friends," Doris said. "They are both very witty."
