Obituaries

Robert L. Rodriguez, 84, of St. Mary Parish, Garden City, died Sept. 24, 2007. Survivors include his wife, Ramona Ortega; three sons, Joseph, Daniel, and James; five daughters, Juanita Esquivel, Cecilia Ortiz, Marie Rodriguez, and Lucinda Archuleta; 25 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Father Trong Tran presided.

J. Clyde Bowman, 88, of St. Bernard Parish, Belpre, died Sept. 22, 2007. He was a farmer and stockman. Survivors include one son, John C. Bowman; three daughters, Martha L. Bowman, Mary Ann Schinstock, and Judy K. Bowman; two step-sons; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one step grandchild and one step great grandchild. Father Pascal Klein presided.

Luis Gabriel Marquez, 22, of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Dodge City, died Sept. 27, 2007. He graduated from Dodge City High School, and was a lifetime Dodge City resident. He worked for National Beef. Survivors include his mother, Sabrina Perez; two brothers, Gerardo Villagrana Jr. and Diamond Villagrana; two sisters, Erika Marquez and Sabra Guzman; and grandparents, Roberto and Marguerita Ortiz, and Antonio and Jackie Perez. Father Ted A. Skalsky presided.

Helen C. Schneweis, 99, of Immaculate Conception Parish, Claflin, died Sept. 28, 2007. She was a homemaker and assistant to Dr. Jury in Claflin. She belonged to the Altar Society and was a past member of the Daughters of Isabella. Survivors include two sisters, Eleanor Prosser and Sister Henrietta Schneweis. Father Charles Mazouch presided

Charles S. Oborny, 82, of St. Michael Parish, La Crosse, died Sept. 27, 2007. He served in the U.S. Navy in the 23rd Naval Construction Battalion during WWII, then was called back to duty during the Korean war. Survivors include four sons, Michael C., Charles P., Jerry D., and Richard L.; one daughter, Patricia A. Ogle; two brothers, Leonard and Larry; one sister, Betty Skillett; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Fathers Charles Mazouch and Rene Labrador presided.

Donald K. Kirkman, 54, of Prince of Peace Parish, St. Patrick, Great Bend, died Sept. 30, 2007. He was a farmer and cattleman. He is survived by his wife, Karla Sparkman Baldwin; four sons, Dustin Kirkman, Tracy Baldwin, Aaron Baldwin, and Richard Baldwin; a daughter, Ashley Baldwin; a brother, Roger Murphy; a sister, Jill Eliason; an aunt, Margaret Miller; five grandchildren; and his best friend and faithful companion, Bear.

Thelma Joleen Ciempa, 63, of St. Aloysius Parish, Ransom, died Oct. 2, 2007. She was a lab technologist at the Grisell Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Edward S. Ciempa; two sons, Daren Ciempa and Jason Ciempa; a daughter, Darla Karlin; her mother, Coletta; a brother, Douglas Luetters; two sisters, Velma Garcia and Donna Luetters; three nieces; two nephews; two great nephews; and two great nieces. Fathers David H. Kraus Henry Hildebrandt presided.

Bertha M. Rohlman, 92, of St. Dominic Parish, Garden City, died Oct. 6, 2007. She belonged to the Altar Society. Survivors include a son, Lou; three daughters, Doris Huslig, Mildred Rohlman, and Catherine Adams; a brother, Ray Osner; two sisters, Kathleen Swope and Lorene Goevert; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Monica C. Robl, 100, of St. Joseph Parish, Ellinwood, died Oct. 7, 2007. She belonged to the Altar Society and the Daughters of Isabella. Survivors include two sons, Roy E. and Ronald; a daughter, Corrine Tekavec; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Father Charles Mazouch presided.

Kevin Lee James, 24, of St. Joseph Parish, Scott City, died Oct. 5, 2007. He owned his own appliance repair business and co-founded K&K Kattle Company. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his parents, Alan E. and Marilyn L. Heath James; his wife, Laramee Renea Peitz; a daughter, Raelee Jade James; a brother, Kerry; and two sisters, Rene Roberts and Amy Felker; parents-in-law, Larry and Pattie Peitz; brother-in-law, Weston and Tia Peitz; grandparents, Marjorie James and Wilma Heath, and Dorothy Peitz and Pat Roth; two nieces and a nephew. Bertha Drees, 97, of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Hoisington, died Oct. 5, 2007. She was a member of the Altar Society. Survivors include two sons, Tony Drees and Kenneth Drees; a brother Paul Binder; a sister, Helen Gross; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Father Dwight Birket presided.

Elvira Marie Scheuerman, 71, of St. Joseph Parish, Ellinwood, died Oct. 5, 2007. She was a homemaker. Survivors include a son, Merle C.; two daughters, Merletta M. Scheuerman and Marietta M.
