Dominicans host Mission Benefit Bazaar Nov. 8 in Great Bend

GREAT BEND—The public is invited to attend the annual Mission Benefit Bazaar from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Dominican Sisters of Great Bend motherhouse.

Each year the sisters work to prepare hand-crafted and homemade items. They make quilts, embroidered tea towels and crocheted baby blankets, holiday-themed decorations, greeting cards, woodcrafts, dolls, baked goods, candy, noodles, and many more items for the big day—the second Saturday in November.

The day’s offerings also include coffee and homemade rolls to enjoy for breakfast or a snack, as well as luncheon specials of soup and pie, all prepared from scratch.

In fact, the days just before the bazaar, the convent kitchen is turned over to the sisters to prepare all their favorite specialties for the bazaar. In the months prior to the event, the sisters gather for one day of working on projects and another day of assembling grab bag items.

Always a hit is registering for a drawing to win one of 14 prizes—from a side of beef to a hand-made wooden clock. For a $1 donation, tickets are purchased to put into the hopper for prizes. No one has to be present to win.

Proceeds from the bazaar are divided between the Dominican foreign missions and the economic poor in the United States.

So mark your calendar for Nov. 8 and come join the day of fun and food.
