Retreat day scheduled for Pastoral Ministry students
Dominican Sister Kathy Goetz will lead a retreat for current and former students of the Pastoral Ministry Formation Program on Sunday, Oct. 9 from 1-5 p.m. in Room 22, Hennessy Hall on the former St. Mary of the Plains College campus.
The theme of the retreat is "God’s Abundance."
"This will be a time to come away and rest awhile," said Sister Kathy. "It will be a time to let the Word fill the mind and touch the heart for a deeper walk with Christ in the service of his ministry."
Sister Kathy is Director of Associates, guiding lay people in their association and commitment to the Dominican calling. She has been involved in retreat work and spiritual direction at Heartland Center for Spirituality and Liebenhaus of Contemplation. For several years she was Formation Director of her Dominican Community. She has been a pastoral minister in parishes and nursing homes and on the Las Casas Team for Ministry with Native Americans in Oklahoma. She enjoys participating in the personal growth of those seeking to live a life dedicated to the Gospel.

James and Beulah Grilliot celebrate 60th
James and Beulah Grilliot of St. Raphael Parish in Syracuse celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their home on Sept. 10.
James and Beulah were united in marriage on Sept. 12, 1945, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Las Animas, Colo. They live on their farm north of Syracuse. They raised five children: Therese Blyn of Wichita, David and Danny Grilliot of Syracuse who run the family farm, Ellen Larson of Cunningham, and Janice Garten of Liberal. They have 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Special guests for the celebration included Father Gilbert Herrman of Garden City, who celebrated a home Mass for the anniversary couple and their guests.

Newly married couples retreat
The Office of Family Life for the Diocese of Wichita, Kansas is offering a special weekend the weekend of Sept. 30-Oct. 2, called Becoming Gift: A Retreat for Newly Married Couples. The weekend is being hosted at the Spiritual Life Center (www.slcwichita.org), considered to be one of the premier retreat and conference centers in the Midwest.
Among the speakers will be Father Jarrod Lies and Sara Splichal, Director of the Office of Family Life in Wichita, who will offer a variety of insights they hope will prove helpful to the couples married one to five years.
The weekend includes presentations, reflection, prayer, rest and a romantic candlelight dinner.
The weekend begins with check-in on Friday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. with the first presentation at 7:30 p.m. The retreat concludes Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. The special rate for the weekend is $175 per couple, which includes a private room with bath at the Center and all meals. Financial assistance is available based on need.
