Stewardship Fair an invitation to offer time, talent or treasure to Church

More than 35 local ministries were represented at the fair.

You might say they represent the central nervous system of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.

Representatives of more than 35 local ministries gathered at the cathedral Sept. 11-12 for the second annual Stewardship Fair, during which they invited parishioners to offer their time, talent, or treasure to the Church.

Organizations such as the "Daughters of Isabella," "Boy Scouts," and the "Altar Society," and programs such as "Project Starfish" and "Pastoral Ministry Formation," were represented by volunteers who were happy to answer questions as parishioners filtered out of Mass and into the fellowship hall.

Tables were brimming with photos, posters, information, and in many cases, a sign-up form. Along with providing information about each group in case one wanted to utilize the organization, were invitations to become a part of its team.

TIME

Among many other organizations were groups such as the Altar Society, the Cougar Club, and Manna House, which were looking for volunteers to donate a few hours a week to help with the care of the altar, support the needs of students, and help present food and clothing to families in need.

TALENT

Giving time to the Church may be as simple as providing a meal. Teen Moms, which offers guidance and help to young mothers, is looking for people willing to provide meals for their Tuesday gatherings. Numerous organizations are looking for singers and musicians, including the Life Teen Music Group, the Spanish Children’s Choir, Instruments of Christ, and the Cathedral Choir. Talent can also mean offering your brain-power on numerous commissions and committees, whether you’re welcoming new parishioners into the Church, or assisting the diocese with a vocation awareness program.

TREASURE

Many programs benefit from donated funds. Organizations like Manna House also need clothing and food to give to needy families. Teen Moms uses donated funds for baby items, and items needed by new mothers. During Lent of 2004, the cathedral’s Project Starfish helped 900 families in Haiti by collecting $3,565.45. And of course, your weekly gift to your parish goes toward a multitude of needs, including those within the parish, the diocese, the state, and beyond.

The chairpersons for this year’s Stewardship Fair were Robin and Wayne Winkler. The children’s activities were organized by Holly Naccarato. The food was prepared by the Spanish youth group.
