Hampels to celebrate golden anniversary

WICHITA – John and Florence "Flo" (Huelskamp) Hampel, members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church of Wichita, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass April 28. A special family celebration will follow at a later date.

The Hampels were married at St. Anthony Church, Fowler, on April 28, 1954 with Msgr. Herman officiating.

John is a retired Holstein dairyman and farmer of Pretty Prairie, Kansas. Flo is a retired United States Postal Clerk of Pretty Prairie.

Their children are Garret and Kathy Hampel of Wichita; Mike and LeAnne Hampel of Tribune; Dennis and Connie Hampel of Wichita; and Tim Hampel of Kingman. Their grandsons are Matthew Hampel of St. Louis, Mo.; Brian and Kyle Hampel of Tribune.

The Hampel’s children and grandsons expressed that, "Your 50th anniversary is a tribute and example of true love."

Streckers celebrate 50 years wed

Bernard J. and Eleanor A. Strecker celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 24 at St. John’s Parish Center in Spearville.

Bernard Strecker and Eleanor Temaat were married April 22, 1954 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at Windthorst.

Bernard retired from Crustbuster after 27 years and Eleanor retired as city clerk from the City of Spearville after 29 years.

Hosting the anniversary celebration were their four sons, Bernard Jr., and wife, Julie, of Cheney, Kans., Larry and wife, Eleanor, of Topeka, Paul and wife, Sheila, of Overland Park, Kans., and Dale of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The couple has three grandsons, three granddaughters, one great-grandson, and two great grand-daughters.

Ordination Mass seeking musicians

Individuals with musical ability, including the ability to sing or play an instrument, are invited to take part in the liturgy at the ordination of Wesley Schawe and Trang Tron May 22 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe. St. Mary’s, Hodgeman County to celebrate centennial

The St. Mary’s community of Hodgeman County extends an invitation to its Centennial on Saturday, May 1. All former pastors, sisters, parishioners, friends and neighbors are welcome to spend an evening of prayer and reminiscing. A tent with video will be provided for any overflow crowd.

The event will start with a Mass at 4 p.m., celebrated by Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore. Following the Mass and visit to the cemetery, a light meal will be served.

Rachel’s Vineyard spring retreat

Rachel’s Vineyard Ministry announces their spring retreat May 14-16. The location of the retreat is kept private to protect the confidentiality of the retreatants. The retreat is designed for women who have had abortions, men, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings, married couples -- anyone affected by the loss of abortion. The weekend meshes religion and psychology into an intense, emotional, supportive and non-judgmental process. Farewell program for Sacred Heart School

The Sacred Heart Grade School in Larned, founded in 1936, will be closing its doors after this school year. To commemorate the event, there will be an assembly at the Sacred Heart School Auditorium in Larned on Saturday, June 5 at 6:30 p.m. to celebrate the history and achievements of Sacred Heart School and to mark its closing. A picnic dinner will be served. All alumni, students, and faculty, past and present, and Sacred Heart parishioners, are invited to attend.
